The role of oxidation treatments before and after CVD synthesis of graphene on copper catalytic surface
2021
Graphene is a sheet of honeycomb bonded carbon, that is only one atom thick. Aside from its remarkable strength, graphene has great conducting and photochemical prop erties. Due to its unique properties, it can be used as viable option for rare metals in circuits and in new type of measuring components. To express these properties at their best, graphene should be single crystal and as clean as possible. In this bachelor thesis, different treatment options for catalytic metal surface for graphene synthesis are studied in chemical vapor deposition growth. Different options to treat the catalytic metal layer were studied, such as changes in gas compositions in annealing process, electropolish…
Structural and Electrochemical Analysis of CIGS: Cr Crystalline Nanopowders and Thin Films Deposited onto ITO Substrates
2021
A new approach for the synthesis of nanopowders and thin films of CuInGaSe2 (CIGS) chalcopyrite material doped with different amounts of Cr is presented. The chalcopyrite material CuInxGa1 − xSe2 was doped using Cr to form a new doped chalcopyrite with the structure CuInxCryGa1 − x − ySe2, where x = 0.4 and y = 0.0, 0.1, 0.2, or 0.3. The electrical properties of CuInx CryGa1 − x − ySe2 are highly dependent on the Cr content and results show these materials as promising dopants for the fabrication thin film solar cells. The CIGS nano-precursor powder was initially synthesized via an autoclave method, and then converted into thin films over transparent substrates. Both crystalline precursor p…
Chemical and physical characterization of thermal aggregation of model proteins modulated by zinc(II) and copper(II) ions
2016
BACKGROUND: Metal ions are implicated in protein aggregation processes of several neurodegenerative pathologies, where the protein deposition occurs, and in the biotechnology field like the food technology where many processes in food manufacturing are based on thermal treatments. OBJECTIVE: The influence of Cu2+ or Zn2+ ions on the thermal aggregation process of Bovine beta-lactoglobulin (BLG) and Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA), two protein models, was studied with the aim of delineating the role of these ions in the protein aggregation kinetics and to clarify the related molecular mechanisms. METHODS: The protein structure changes were monitored by Raman spectroscopy, whereas the aggregate gr…
Open-chain polyamine ligands bearing an anthracene unit - Chemosensors for logic operations at the molecular level
2001
In this work the absorption and the fluorescence emission properties as well as the protonation sequence of three open chain polyamine ligands of different dimensions bearing an anthracene unit were studied. The protonation and stability constants with Ni2+, Cu2+, Zn2+, and Cd2+ have been determined in 0.15 mol·dm−3 NaCl at 298.1 ± 0.1 K. The values of both protonation and stability constants follow the expected trends according to the number of nitrogen donors, sequence of chelate rings and hydrophilic−hydrophobic balance. Chelation enhancement of the fluorescence emission (CHEF) was observed for some complexes of these ligands with Zn2+ and Cd2+. In contrast the analog complexes containin…
A step forward in the development of superoxide dismutase mimetic nanozymes: the effect of the charge of the surface on antioxidant activity
2019
Two binucleating hezaaza macrocycles containing a pyridinol spacer have been prepared and characterised. Protonation studies indicate the deprotonation of the phenol group at relatively low pH values with the concomitant occurrence of a keto-enolic equilibrium. These ligands readily form binuclear Cu2+ and Zn2+ complexes as denoted by potentiometric and spectroscopic studies. The binding of the metals yields to the ready deprotonation of the phenol with the stabilisation of the keto form that results in complexes of greater stabilities than the analogous ones containing pyridine as spacer instead of pyridine. Mixed Cu2+–Zn2+-complexes were also detected in aqueous solutions containing equim…
Metal ions modulate thermal aggregation of betalactoglobulin: a join chemical and physical characterization
2014
Abstract Molecular basis of the role played by Cu 2 + and Zn 2 + ions during the thermal aggregation processes of beta-lactoglobulin (BLG) was studied by using a joint application of different techniques. In particular, Raman spectroscopy was very useful in identifying the different effects caused by the two metals at molecular level (i.e. changes in His protonation state, disulfides bridge conformation, and micro-environment of aromatic residues), evidencing the primary importance of the protein charge distribution during the aggregation process. Both metal ions are able to act on this factor and favor the protein aggregation, but Zn 2 + is able to alter the natural conformational state of…
Comparison of ultrasound-assisted extraction, microwave-assisted acid leaching and reflux for the determination of arsenic, cadmium and copper in con…
2002
Extraction methods for the determination of arsenic, cadmium, and copper in contaminated soil samples by Zeeman effect electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry have been compared. The determination of cadmium and copper in ultrasound-assisted aqua regia extracts of contaminated soil SRMs by ETAAS, using a mixture of NH4H2PO4 and Mg(NO3)2, for cadmium, and a mixture of Pd and Mg(NO3)2, for copper, as a matrix modifier, was carried out with high accuracy and precision (RSD < 5.1%). The analysis of SRM 2711 failed to obtain the certified concentrations of Cd and Cu by microwave and reflux methods, respectively. The determination of arsenic was performed successfully in low chloride concen…
Determination of Cd, Co, Cu, Fe, Pb, Mn, Ni and Zn in diets: Development of a method
1991
A method useful for the determination of cadmium, cobalt, copper, iron, lead, manganese, nickel and zinc in diets is described. Organic matter is destroyed applying a wet procedure, and element content is measured by flame atomic absorption spectroscopy (FAAS) in the case of copper, iron, manganese, nickel and zinc, and by graphite furnace (GF-AAS) in the case of cadmium, cobalt and lead. The matrix interference study is carried out. Values found for linearity, detection and quantitation limits as well as accuracy show that the described method is useful to determine the elements taken into account at usual levels in diets.
Improvement of catalytic activity over Cu--Fe modified Al-rich Beta catalyst for the selective catalytic reduction of NOx with NH3
2016
Copper and iron bimetal modified Al-rich Beta zeolites from template-free synthesis were prepared for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NOx with NH3 in exhaust gas streams. Comparing to the Cu-based and Fe-based mono-component Beta catalysts, Cu(3.0)-Fe(1.3)-Beta bi-component catalyst shows better low-temperature activity and wider reaction-temperature window. Over 80% of NO conversion can be achieved at the temperature region of 125–500 °C. Due to the synergistic effect of copper and iron evidenced by XRD, UV–Vis–NIR, EPR and XPS measurements, the dispersion state of active components as well as the ratio of Cu2+/Cu+ and Fe3+/Fe2+ were improved over Cu(3.0)-Fe(1.3)-Beta. Isolated Cu2+…
