[Cu3(Hmesox)3]3−: a Precursor for the Rational Design of Chiral Molecule-Based Magnets (H4mesox = 2-dihydroxymalonic acid)

2010

Two new compounds K(3)[Cu(3)(Hmesox)(3)(H(2)O)] x 4 H(2)O (1) and {(PPh(4))(2)[CoCu(3)(Hmesox)(3)Cl]} (2) [H(4)mesox = mesoxalic acid (2-dihydroxymalonic acid) and PPh(4)(+) = tetraphenylphosphonium cation] have been prepared and magneto-structurally characterized. Compound 1 contains the [Cu(3)(Hmesox)(3)](3-) entity which can be considered as a new precursor for molecular magnetism. In 1 the triangular arrangement of three copper(II) ions bridged by alkoxo groups are further connected to a symmetry-related tricopper(II) unit through a double oxo(carboxylate) bridge. The resulting hexacopper(II) entities are joined further through anti-syn carboxylate groups into an anionic three-dimension…

Metabolism of tresperimus by rat aorta semicarbazide-sensitive amine oxidase (SSAO).

2002

Tresperimus (Cellimis), a new immunosuppressive agent, is mainly eliminated in the rat through metabolism, in which the oxidative deamination of the primary amine of the drug plays a major role. We have previously demonstrated in vivo the significant involvement of semicarbazide-sensitive amine oxidase (SSAO) in this reaction. Rat aorta, a tissue with one of the highest specific SSAO activities, was tested as a new in vitro model to elucidate tresperimus metabolism, using a combination of liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (LC/MS) and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analyses. The metabolites resulting from the main metabolic pathway of the drug were formed in rat aorta ho…

Haem oxygenase-1 down-regulates high mobility group box 1 and matrix metalloproteinases in osteoarthritic synoviocytes

2010

Objectives. Activation of osteoarthritic synoviocytes by pro-inflammatory cytokines results in the release of biochemical mediators such as MMPs and high mobility group box 1 (HMGB1). Extracellular HMGB1 can play an important role in joint diseases as a mediator of synovitis. We have shown previously that haem oxygenase-1 (HO-1) exerts protective effects during inflammatory responses. In this study, we have examined whether HO-1 induction would be an effective strategy to control MMP and HMGB1 production in osteoarthritic synoviocytes. Methods. Osteoarthritic synoviocytes were obtained by digestion with collagenase and cultured until third passage. HO-1 was induced by cobalt protoporphyrin …

Osteonecrosis detected by whole body magnetic resonance in patients with Hodgkin Lymphoma treated by BEACOPP

2016

Objectives: The purpose of our retrospective review of prospectively acquired Whole Body Magnetic Resonance (WB-MRI) scans was to assess the incidence of osteonecrosis in patients who received different chemotherapies. Methods: We evaluated the WB-MRI scans performed on 42 patients with Hodgkin Lymphoma treated by three chemotherapy regimens (6ABVD, 2ABVD + 4BEACOPP, 2ABVD + 8BEACOPP), excluding patients with the main risk factors for osteonecrosis. Results: Six out of seven patients (86 %) who received eight BEACOPP and one out of five patients (20 %) treated by four BEACOPP presented osteonecrosis, with a statistically significant difference of frequency between the two groups of patients…

Kinetics of zinc transport in vitro in rat small intestine and colon: interaction with copper.

2002

The present study was planned to investigate the kinetic transport of zinc, in the intact intestine of the rat, in order to establish if more than one transporter is involved as well as the existence of a preferent sector in the cation uptake. Using an in vitro technique, the influx of zinc across the brush border membrane in three sectors of the small intestine (proximal, mid and distal) and in the colon of the rat was measured at six different concentrations (from 0.0007 to 11 mM). The kinetic study showed that intestinal transport of zinc occurs by a saturable process in the small intestine. The K(m) value obtained in the proximal segment (10.78+/-4.40 mM) is clearly higher than those ob…

Effect of metal ion catalyzed oxidation of rifamycin SV on cell viability and metabolic performance of isolated rat hepatocytes.

1991

The effect of rifamycin SV on metabolic performance and cell viability was studied using isolated hepatocytes from fed, starved and glutathione (GSH) depleted rats. The relationships between GSH depletion, nutritional status of the cells, glucose metabolism, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) leakage and malondialdehyde (MDA) production in the presence of rifamycin SV and transition metal ions was investigated. Glucose metabolism was impaired in isolated hepatocytes from both fed and starved animals, the effect is dependent on the rifamycin SV concentration and is enhanced by copper (II). Oxygen consumption by isolated hepatocytes from starved rats was also increased by copper (II) and a partial i…

Selenium, Copper, and Zinc Indices of Nutritional Status : Influence of Sex and Season on Reference Values

2000

The objective was to estimate the possible influence of season or season and sex on the selenium, glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), copper, zinc, and superoxide dismutase (SOD) values in plasma with a view to establishing reference values. For this purpose, 55 healthy volunteers (36 women and 19 men) were selected and their whole-blood samples were collected four times a year at the beginning of each season. In the population as a whole, no statistically significant seasonal differences were detected in copper, selenium, and GSH-Px values in plasma, whereas zinc and SOD values in plasma depended on the season. In general, the variability was higher among the women. In view of the differences…

A Popular myth - low-histamine diet improves chronic spontaneous urticaria - fact or fiction?

2016

Background Chronic spontaneous urticaria (CsU) is a frequent dermatological disease that might last for months or years with high impact on quality of life. Known causes are autoreactive phenomena, infections or intolerances, rarely IgE-mediated allergies. One third of CsU patients benefit from a low-pseudoallergen diet. Additionally, it is often discussed, that reducing histamine ingestion alone might improve clinical symptoms and quality of life in CsU-patients despite the uncertain role of the histamine-degrading enzyme diamine oxidase (DAO). Objective Aim of this study is to investigate the impact of low-histamine diet on symptoms and quality of life in patients with CsU. Methods Patien…

Heme oxygenase-1 mediates protective effects on inflammatory, catabolic and senescence responses induced by interleukin-1β in osteoarthritic osteobla…

2011

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic degenerative joint disease showing altered bone metabolism. Osteoblasts contribute to the regulation of cartilage metabolism and bone remodeling. We have shown previously that induction of heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) protects OA cartilage against inflammatory and degradative responses. In this study, we investigated the effects of HO-1 induction on OA osteoblast metabolism. HO-1 was induced with cobalt protoporphyrin IX (CoPP) and by transduction with LV-HO-1. In osteoblasts stimulated with interleukin (IL)-1β, CoPP enhanced mineralization, the expression of a number of markers of osteoblast differentiation such as Runx2, bone morphogenetic protein-2, osteocalci…
