The Influence of Morphological Aspects in the Reaction Pathway and Superconductive Properties of Bi2223-Ca2CuO3 Ceramic Composites

1994

ABSTRACTA variation of the solid-state matrix technique has been developed as a procedure for the preparation of 2223 bismuth superconducting phases [(Bi,Pb)2Sr2Ca1-nCunO4+2n, n=3]. The adequate processing of samples of nominal compositions 2223+x 0021, obtained both by this procedure and by the polymer matrix method, has allowed the modification of the microstructure of the calcium copper excess, with no noticeable change in that of the 2223 grains. The study of the phase evolution in the processing of the samples has shown that the formation rate of the 2223 phase is faster when the particle size of the calcium cuprate is smaller. A dependence of the intergranular superconducting properti…

Growth of glass-embedded Cu nanoparticles: A low-frequency Raman scattering study

2012

International audience; Several populations of Cu spherical nanoparticles grown in a silicate glass at different temperatures with respect to the glass transition temperature were studied using high-resolution, low-frequency Raman scattering and optical absorption. The analysis of the spectra shows that the annealing of the doped glass at temperatures close to T-g leads to the formation of metallic copper nanoparticles with high crystallinity, whereas lower-temperature and higher-temperature annealings result in the formation of poorer nanoparticle assemblies in terms of size distribution and/or nanocrystallinity. It is also shown that in the case where the optical data do not unambiguously…

Positron Microscopy Studies of Wear Tracks on a Copper Surface

2014

Positron microscopy was used for studies of defects induced by ball indentation or sliding on the surface of well-annealed copper samples. A focused positron beam of 24.5-keV energy was used to scan the deformed region of the indenter impression, and measurements of the annihilation line parameter were performed. In the case of ball indentation, the measured defect distribution correlates well with the von Mises stress distribution of the Hertz contact and the von Mises yield criterion. For the wear track produced by pin on disc dry sliding, an asymmetric defect distribution near the wear track is observed. It indicates the presence of a tangential force that additionally deforms the sample.

RGB video electrochemistry of copper electrodeposition/electrodissolution in acid media on a ternary graphite:copper:polypropylene composite electrode

2019

Abstract Galvanostatic copper electrodeposition and electrodissolution on graphite:copper:polypropylene composite electrodes in acidic media have been investigated to extend the technological applicability of ternary composites. Both electrochemical processes were monitored by RGB video electrochemistry. The analysis of digital images allowed the color changes on the electrode surface to be investigated. We estimate the growth rate of the copper layer in two different electrode geometries. The relatively high resistance of this composite causes a gradient of the electric resistance along the electrode involving a non-homogeneous electrodeposit growth in CuSO4/H2SO4 aqueous solutions. Copper…

Graded Carrier Concentration Absorber Profile for High Efficiency CIGS Solar Cells

2015

We demonstrate an innovative CIGS-based solar cells model with a graded doping concentration absorber profile, capable of achieving high efficiency values. In detail, we start with an in-depth discussion concerning the parametrical study of conventional CIGS solar cells structures. We have used the wxAMPS software in order to numerically simulate cell electrical behaviour. By means of simulations, we have studied the variation of relevant physical and chemical parameters-characteristic of such devices-with changing energy gap and doping density of the absorber layer. Our results show that, in uniform CIGS cell, the efficiency, the open circuit voltage, and short circuit current heavily depe…

Preparation and properties of radio-frequency-sputtered half-Heusler films for use in solar cells

2011

Abstract The class of half-Heusler compounds opens possibilities to find alternatives for II–VI or III–V compound semiconductors. We aim to find suitable substitutes for the cadmium sulphide buffer layer in chalcopyrite-based thin film solar cells, where the buffer layer is located between the p-type chalcopyrite absorber and an n-type transparent window layer. We report here the preparation of radio-frequency-sputtered lithium copper sulphide “LiCuS” and lithium zinc phosphide “LiZnP” films. The optical analysis of these films revealed band gaps between 1.8 and 2.5 eV, respectively. Chemical properties of the film surface and both interfaces between the film and a Cu ( In , Ga ) Se 2 layer…

Optical and photovoltaic properties of indium selenide thin films prepared by van der Waals epitaxy

2001

Indium selenide thin films have been grown on p-type gallium selenide single crystal substrates by van der Waals epitaxy. The use of two crucibles in the growth process has resulted in indium selenide films with physical properties closer to these of bulk indium selenide than those prepared by other techniques. The optical properties of the films have been studied by electroabsorption measurements. The band gap and its temperature dependence are very close to those of indium selenide single crystals. The width of the fundamental transition, even if larger than that of the pure single crystal material, decreases monotonously with temperature. Exciton peaks are not observed even at low temper…

Structural and Optical Study of Ga3+ Substitution in CuInS2 Nanoparticles Synthesized by a One-Pot Facile Method

2014

A one-pot method was used to synthesize CuInxGa1–xS2 nanoparticles by substituting In3+ with Ga3+. The samples with composition of gallium ranging from 0% to 100% were synthesized by solving copper chloride, indium trichloride, gallium acetylacetonate, and thiourea as precursors in 1-octadecene, oleylamine, and oleic acid as noncoordinating, coordinating, and capping agent solvents, respectively. Depending on the chemical composition and synthesis conditions, the morphology of the as-synthesized nanoparticles obtained was trigonal, semitrigonal, hexagonal, and quasi-spherical. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction confirmed that Ga3+ substituted In3+ without any segregation…

Influence of Ag, Cu dopants on the second and third harmonic response of ZnO films

2009

International audience; Silver- and copper-doped ZnO films were prepared by radio-frequency (RF)-magnetron sputtering on glass and quartz substrates. The influence of dopants content on the microstructural evolution and optical as well as nonlinear optical (NLO) properties were investigated. It has been found that the grain sizes were enlarged with increasing of Ag, Cu dopants amount in ZnO films. The Ag or Cu doping leads to the optical band gap narrowing. Besides, the second-order NLO response of Ag- and Cu-doped ZnO films is lower than that of undoped ZnO film. The second harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency of the ZnO:Ag film was found to be higher than that of the ZnO:Cu film at the si…

A comparative study of Ag and Cu adhesion on an MgO(001) surface

2004

Abstract Ab initio calculations were performed on 2D slab models of copper and silver adhesion on a perfect MgO(001) surface using density functional theory (DFT) combined with the localized atomic wave functions, as implemented in both CRYSTAL-98 and CRYSTAL-03 computer codes. To clarify the nature of the interfacial bonding, we consider slab models of the Ag/MgO(001) and Cu/MgO(001) interfaces with six different substrate coverages, varied from 1 4 monolayer (ML) up to 2 ML. The dependence of several key interface properties on the substrate coverage is analyzed. For all coverages, the most favorable sites for the adsorption of metal atoms are found to be above the surface O 2− ions, wher…
