The construction of bridges with suspenders, such as cable-stayed or tied-arch bridges, needs deep study of the prestressing forces to be applied to stays or hangers in all stages, depending on the construction technique adopted. The cavitation corrosion behaviour of commercially pure Grade 2 titanium in a 992 g/l LiBr solution has been investigated at 25 °C using an ultrasound device. Cavitation was found to have more influence on the anodic branch than on the cathodic branch, shifting the corrosion potential, Ecorr, and the OCP value towards more negative potentials, and increasing the corrosion current density, icorr, by six times. The repassivation kinetics of Grade 2 titanium have also been studied in the 992 g/l LiBr solution, at 25 °C and various applied potentials, using cavitation to damage the electrode surface. The effect of Mo and Ge reactive elements on high-temperature oxidation of higher manganese silicide

Abstract Higher manganese silicide (HMS) alloys (Mnx-αMoαSiy-βGeβ (x = 0.99–1.011, α = 0.005–0.02, y = 1.75, β = 0.005–0.01)) were studied to elucidate the effect of Mo and Ge pertaining to oxidation. Oxidation experiments were conducted using thermogravimetry and characterized using x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Isoconversion experiments below 450 °C, shows that doping (up to 2 at%) raises the oxidation potential of HMS. Isothermally, the oxidation rate reduces buy one order of magnitude by doping on Mn and/or Si sites from 0.5 to 2 at%, revealing that the dopants-based oxides do not lessen the robustness of SiO2 oxide.

Abstract A three-dimensional framework for low-cycle fatigue analysis of polycrystalline aggregates is proposed in this work. First, a cohesive law coupling plasticity and damage is developed for modelling cycle-by-cycle degradation of material interfaces up to complete de-cohesion and failure. The law may model both quasi-static degradation under increasing monotonic load and degradation under cyclic loading, through a coupled plasticity-damage model whose activation and flow rules are formulated in a thermodynamically consistent framework. Abstract The presented study deals with comprehension of relationships between machining cutting conditions and physical-chemical properties linked with surface integrity. A multi-physics model is presented to calculate residual stress, temperature and dislocation fields in the machined material. This model includes both thermal-mechanical, structural evolution and dynamic recristallisation approaches. The model was applied to pure copper after superfinish turning. An in situ technique for layer-by-layer electrochemical analysis of solid surfaces using the voltammetry of microparticles is presented. The method is based on the determination of several shape-dependent parameters for voltammetric curves recorded at a graphite pencil working electrode in contact with the sample, all immersed into aqueous electrolytes.
