Revisiting spin-dependent forces mediated by new bosons : potentials in the coordinate-space representation for macroscopic- and atomic-scale experim…

2019

The exchange of spin-0 or spin-1 bosons between fermions or spin-polarised macroscopic objects gives rise to various spin-dependent potentials. We derive the coordinate-space non-relativistic potentials induced by the exchange of such bosons, including contact terms that can play an important role in atomic-scale phenomena, and correct for errors and omissions in the literature. We summarise the properties of the potentials and their relevance for various types of experiments. These potentials underpin the interpretation of experiments that search for new bosons, including spectroscopy, torsion-pendulum measurements, magnetometry, parity nonconservation and electric dipole moment experiment…

First Observation ofD0−D¯0Oscillations inD0→K+π−π+π−Decays and Measurement of the Associated Coherence Parameters

2016

Charm meson oscillations are observed in a time-dependent analysis of the ratio of D0→K+π−π+π− to D0→K−π+π−π+ decay rates, using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0fb−1 recorded by the LHCb experiment. The measurements presented are sensitive to the phase-space averaged ratio of doubly Cabibbo-suppressed to Cabibbo-favoured amplitudes rK3πD and the product of the coherence factor RK3πD and a charm mixing parameter y′K3π. The constraints measured are rK3πD=(5.67±0.12)×10−2, which is the most precise determination to date, and RK3πD⋅y′K3π=(0.3±1.8)×10−3, which provides useful input for determinations of the CP-violating phase γ in B±→DK±,D→K∓π±π∓π± decays. The analysis also …

CP and T violation in neutrino oscillations

2000

The conditions to induce appreciable CP-and T-odd effects in neutrino oscillations are discussed. The propagation in matter leads to fake CP-and CPT-odd asymmetries, besides a Bohm-Aharonov type modification of the interference pattern. We study the separation of fake and genuine CP violation by means of energy and distance dependence.

Links between CP violation in leptogenesis and low energy supersymmetry

2008

The seesaw mechanism makes leptogenesis a very attractive solution to the baryon asymmetry problem. If the baryon asymmetry of the Universe (BAU) was made via leptogenesis, any observation of CP violation in the lepton sector, for instance CP violation in neutrino oscillations, would support leptogenesis by demonstrating that CP is not a symmetry of leptons. The question is whether a stronger link exists between CP violation at low energies and leptogenesis. In our work we address this question, in the framework of a supersymmetric scenario where new constraints given by the low energy footprints of the high energy theory can be imposed, namely the current experimental bounds on lepton flav…

The Capabilities of monochromatic EC neutrino beams with the SPS upgrade

2007

The goal for future neutrino facilities is the determination of the U(e3) mixing and CP violation in neutrino oscillations. This will require precision experiments with a very intense neutrino source and energy control. With this objective in mind, the creation of monochromatic neutrino beams from the electron capture decay of boosted ions by the SPS of CERN has been proposed. We discuss the capabilities of such a facility as a function of the energy of the boost and the baseline for the detector. We conclude that the SPS upgrade to 1000 GeV is crucial to reach a better sensitivity to CP violation iff it is accompanied by a longer baseline. We compare the physics potential for two different…

New limits on neutrino magnetic moments from low energy neutrino data

2016

Here we give a brief review on the current bounds on the general Majorana transition neutrino magnetic moments (TNMM) which cover also the conventional neutrino magnetic moments (NMM). Leptonic CP phases play a key role in constraining TNMMs. While the Borexino experiment is the most sensitive to the TNMM magnitudes, one needs complementary information from reactor and accelerator experiments in order to probe the complex CP phases.

Time reversal violation for entangled neutral mesons

2013

A direct evidence for Time Reversal Violation (TRV) means an experiment that, considered by itself, clearly shows TRV independent of, and unconnected to, the results for CP Violation. No existing result before the recent BABAR experiment with entangled neutral B mesons had demonstrated TRV in this sense. There is a unique solution for the test of TRV with unstable particles thanks to the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) Entanglement between the two neutral mesons in B, and φ, Factories. The two quantum effects of the decays as filtering measurements of the meson states and the transfer of information of the first decay to the still living partner allow performing a genuine TRV asymmetry with t…
