A new digital data acquisition system has been installed at the IGISOL facility at the department of Physics in University of Jyväskylä in November, 2016. The technical details of the hardware and software of this new system are presented in this thesis. Nutaq VHS-ADC digital data acquisition system includes an analogue to digital converter (ADC) crate board, an offset unit box, an acquisition host PC, and a storage drive. Our investigation aims to understand the genetic structure and evolutionary history of Petagnaea gussonei, an ancient and endangered species belonging to the Saniculoideae subfamily (Apiaceae). It is paleoendemic to Sicily, with a small number of populations in the Nebrodi Mountains. A total of seven chloroplast microsatellite repeat loci and 12 AFLP primer combinations were used to screen 115 individuals corresponding to 17 populations. The ratio of seed to pollen flow was also calculated using the modified Ennos equation. A comparative study on different enteric-coated hard capsules was performed. The influence of different formulation factors like choice of enteric polymer, triethyl citrate (TEC) concentration (plasticizer), talc concentrations (anti-tacking agent), and different coating process parameters on the sealing performance of the capsule and the disintegration time were investigated. Purpose: To investigate the possible association between ventilatory settings on the first day of invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV) and mortality in patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) with severe acute respiratory infection (SARI). Materials and methods: In this pre-planned sub-study of a prospective, multicentre observational study, 441 patients with SARI who received controlled IMV during the ICU stay were included in the analysis. Results: ICU and hospital mortality rates were 23.1 and 28.1%, respectively. In this paper comparative genome and phenotype microarray analyses of Rhodococcus sp. BCP1 and Rhodococcus opacus R7 were performed. Rhodococcus sp. BCP1 was selected for its ability to grow on short-chain n-alkanes and R. opacus R7 was isolated for its ability to grow on naphthalene and on o-xylene. Results of genome comparison, includ- ing BCP1, R7, along with other Rhodococcus reference strains, showed that at least 30% of the genome of each strain presented unique sequences and only 50% of the predicted proteome was shared. Darbā ir analizēts tādu metālisko elementu kā Fe, Cu, Zn, K, Mn, Ni, Cd, As un Pb saturs brūklenēs un pētīta to pārnese uz dažādām auga daļām, izsekots arī fosfora koncentrācijai brūklenēs. Augsnes paraugos noteikts pH, dzelzs un cinka saturs. Brūkleņu paraugi un augsne līdz 10 cm dziļumam tika ievākti divās teritorijās: Garkalnes mežs un Vecumu mežs Žīguru pagastā.

Darbā tika veikta zinātniskās literatūras izpēte un apkopojums par spektroskopijas metodēm, ko var izmantot ķīmisko elementu kvalitatīvo un kvantitatīvo noteikšanai. Praktiskajā daļā tika veikta zāļu tēju analīze izmantojot rentgenfluoriscences spektroskopiju un lāzerinducētās sagraušanas spektroskopijas metodēm.
