Cooperation between Different CRISPR-Cas Types Enables Adaptation in an RNA-Targeting System

2021

CRISPR-Cas systems are immune systems that protect bacteria and archaea against their viruses, bacteriophages. Immunity is achieved through the acquisition of short DNA fragments from the viral invader’s genome.

A study on The Factors Affecting Merger and Acquisition Decision In Nepalese Banking Sector

2016

Master's thesis Business Administration BE501 - University of Agder 2016 The main purpose of this study is to find out the factors that would lead to making decision regarding going for merger and acquisition among the banks in Nepalese banking sector. This thesis finds out various factors that would affect merger and acquisition decision in banking sector based upon previous studies, and tries to check whether these are significant in case of Nepalese banking sector or not. Four theories: neo-classical, agency, behavioral and resource dependency; have been taken into consideration for purpose of finding out factors affecting decision to go for merger and acquisition. Based upon the previou…

Characterization of a neutron–beta counting system with beta-delayed neutron emitters

2016

A new detection system for the measurement of beta-delayed neutron emission probabilities has been characterized using fission products with well known β-delayed neutron emission properties. The setup consists of BELEN-20, a 4π neutron counter with twenty 3He proportional tubes arranged inside a large polyethylene neutron moderator, a thin Si detector for β counting and a selftriggering digital data acquisition system. The use of delayed-neutron precursors with different neutron emission windows allowed the study of the effect of energy dependency on neutron, β and β-neutron rates. The observed effect is well reproduced by Monte Carlo simulations. The impact of this dependency on the accura…

SAT0373 Role of Inkt Cells in Patients with Primary Sjogren Syndrome

2015

Background iNKT cells represent a T cell subset at the bridge between innate and adaptive immunity, playing a role in regulating auto-antibody-producing B cells before their entry into germinal centers. Therefore the absence and/or reduction of iNKT cells seem to increase auto-reactive B cell activation. Primary Sjogren9s syndrome (pSS) is a systemic autoimmune disease in which lymphocyte infiltration and organization in lymphoid structures of inflamed salivary glands occur. Objectives The aim of this study was to investigate the frequency of iNKT in the salivary glands and peripheral blood of patients with pSS and their function by using CD1d/aGalactosylceramide (aGalaCer) tetramers. Metho…

Evolution and Immune Function of Fish Lectins

2016

Abstract Lectins are sugar-binding proteins widely distributed among animals, plants, and microbial taxon, involved in diverse biological processes. In both invertebrates and vertebrates, they play key roles in nonself recognition and immune responses, such as nonself recognition, inflammatory processes, and immunomodulation. In fish, many lectin families have been identified, and their tissue-specific expression and localization of the various lectin repertoires and their ligands are consistent with their distinct biological roles in innate and adaptive immunity. Here, we discuss the involvement of F-type lectins, rhamnose-binding lectins, galectins, and C-type lectins in pathogen recognit…

The experimental antiphospholipid syndrome: an invaluable tool to study autoimmunity-induced neurodegeneration

2014

cells and its activation inhibits their differentiation and remyelination. These suggest a possible role of CNS TLR2 in progressive autoimmune demyelination. Methods: We examined the effects of intra-cerebro-ventricular (ICV) injection of Zymozan, a TLR2 agonist, on the clinical and pathological course of EAE. The survival and clinical scores were monitored; demyelination and axonal loss were quantified by gold-black and Bielschowsky stains, and the nature of neuro-inflammatory response was characterized by TLR2, IBA-1 and CD3 stainings and PCR for immune cytokines. Immune cells were isolated from EAE brain tissue and their proliferative response to the autoantigen (PLP peptide) or Concaval…

BORDERS AND BORDER CROSSING BETWEEN ART WORLDS. Successful attempts and epic failures to enter new domains in recent British art

2016

The paper attempts to answer, whether it is possible for successful artists in one specific sector to access the domain of another artistic field at their free will. In doing so, this contribution analyses the possible existence of borders and gatekeepers between different art worlds. The aim is not just finding or defining boundaries between art fields, but rather understanding, if boundaries can be pierced through, as well as the conditions that might hinder acceptance. Moving from an art theoretical and philosophical perspective, the present paper will discuss the thesis of Pierre Bourdieu, Howard Becker, Berys Gaut and Joseph Margolis on boundary conditions in the arts. Subsequently the…
