Purpose In the present study, the authors examined the prospective associations among early language skills, behavioral regulation skills, and 2 aspects of school-age social functioning (adaptability and social skills). Method The study sample consisted of children with and without a familial risk for dyslexia. Detection of Mycoplasma sp. in bronchoalveolar lavage of AIDS patients with pulmonary infiltrates.

We examined 486 bronchoalveolar lavages (BAL) including 32 from AIDS patients with pulmonary infiltrates and 20 from patients with leukemia or after transplantation. Mycoplasmas were found in 4/32 (12.5%) HIV-positive patients compared to 4/454 (0.9%) HIV-negative patients (p0.001). All of these four HIV-positive patients suffered from advanced infection (CD4 counts100/microL) and developed complications (Pcp, n = 2, recurrent bacterial pneumonia, n = 1, pulmonary Kaposi sarcoma, n = 1). No mycoplasmas were detected in 20 immunosuppressed patients with leukemia or after transplantation. With the advent of a minimally invasive laparoscopy technique, the advantages of diagnostic laparoscopy are being rediscovered. We report here on four patients with systemic disease of unknown origin and splenomegaly, in whom minilaparoscopy-guided splenic biopsy yielded a definitive diagnosis. Four patients with unclear systemic disease were studied using diagnostic minilaparoscopy and guided spleen biopsy, after failure of diagnostic work-up. Minilaparoscopic spleen biopsy revealed the diagnosis of a B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in two cases. The impact of compliance with Italian guidelines on the outcome of hospitallised community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) in internal medicine departments was evaluated. All Fine class IV or V CAP patients were included in this multicentre, interventional, before-and-after study, composed of three phases: 1) a retrospective phase (RP; 1,443 patients); 2) a guideline implementation phase; and 3) a prospective phase (PP; 1,404 patients).
