Real-time acquisition of wideband signals data using non-uniform sampling

2009

Wideband signal acquisition often faces a problem of bulk data recording. It is a critical factor in real-time systems. The paper discusses an approach that deals with this problem incorporating Digital Alias-free Signal Processing and Virtual Instrumentation technologies. Such combination is advantageous for real-time applications and useful in the development of measurement and software defined radio systems. Non-uniform sampling technique allows considerably decrease the data of wideband signals so, that they can be transferred in real-time to a typical PC through high-speed PCI Express communication interface. The experimental prototype system has been developed and obtained results are…

Les langues, facteurs du rendement en lecture dans les évaluations PIRLS

2011

The starting point of this research is the question, may reading acquisition be more or less effective depending on the language in which it is perform? Two categories for classifying the languages have been developed. First the notion of linguistic family is employed to describe the languages from a cultural and historical perspective. Secondly, the notion of orthographic depth is used for differentiating the languages according to the correspondence between orthography and phonetic. These categories have been related to the databases PIRLS 2001 and 2006 (international assessments about reading developed by the IEA), the aim being to connect reading achievement to the language in which stu…

Knowledge Acquisition from Multiple Experts Based on Semantics of Concepts

1999

This paper presents one approach to acquire knowledge from multiple experts. The experts are grouped into a multilevel hierarchical structure, according to the type of knowledge acquired. The first level consists of experts who have knowledge about the basic objects and their relationships. The second level of experts includes those who have knowledge about the relationships of the experts at the first level and each higher level accordingly. We show how to derive the most supported opinion among the experts at each level. This is used to order the experts into categories of their competence defined as the support they get from their colleagues.

Detection and quantification of Streptococcus pneumoniae from Iranian patients with pneumonia and individual carriers by real time PCR

2011

The aim of this study was to develop a real time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for quantitative detection of Streptococcus pneumoniae from clinical respiratory specimens. Initially, 184 respiratory specimens from patients with community acquired pneumonia (CAP) (n = 129) and 55 cases with hospital associated pneumonia (HAP) were bacteriologically investigated. To check the colonization status among the healthy individuals, 32 preschool and 31 adults were screened in parallel. All specimens were cultured on selective culture media to isolate S. pneumoniae, Legionella spp. and Mycoplasma spp. A 166 bp fragment corresponding to cbp A gene of S. pneumoniae was amplified from clinical specimen…

Myeloid dendritic cell: From sentinel of immunity to key player of peripheral tolerance?

2009

Myeloid dendritic cells (DC) are "sentinels" of immunity, ideally positioned throughout the body gateways and equipped with unique properties to transport antigens from the periphery to lymphoid tissues. They are professional antigen-presenting cells transmitting incoming infectious signals to T cells, the key players of adaptive immunity. For induction of effective antigen-specific T-cell immunity, crosstalk of DC and naive T cells is mandatory. However, besides this essential immunostimulatory function of DC, consolidated findings from the DC research field in the last 10 years have shown that DC have an additional important function. They act as pivotal players in the peripheral toleranc…

Neutrophil extracellular traps mediate transfer of cytoplasmic neutrophil antigens to myeloid dendritic cells toward ANCA induction and associated au…

2012

AbstractAntineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCAs) target proteins normally retained within neutrophils, indicating that cell death is involved in the autoimmunity process. Still, ANCA pathogenesis remains obscure. ANCAs activate neutrophils inducing their respiratory burst and a peculiar form of cell death, named NETosis, characterized by formation of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs), decondensed chromatin threads decorated with cytoplasmic proteins endorsed with antimicrobial activity. NETs have been consistently detected in ANCA-associated small-vessel vasculitis, and this association prompted us to test whether the peculiar structure of NET favors neutrophil proteins uploading i…

Epidemic spread of ST1-MRSA-IVa in a neonatal intensive care unit, Italy

2012

Abstract Background Community-associated methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (CA-MRSA) has recently emerged as an important pathogen in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). The purposes of this study were to characterize methicillin-resistant isolates from an outbreak in a NICU, to examine the genetic traits and clonality of CA-MRSA, and to review the characteristics and outcomes of the neonatal cases and investigate the routes of entry and transmission of the MRSA outbreak strain in the NICU under study. Methods The study NICU practiced an active surveillance program for multidrug-resistant organisms, including weekly cultures for detection of MRSA from nasal swabs among all the …

Investor Inattention to All-Cash Acquisition Announcements: A Joint Day-Time Analysis in the Spanish Market

2021

Prior studies suggest that investors have limited attention, which determines the speed with which information is incorporated into share prices and, in turn, affects the efficiency of the markets. Unlike other corporate events, the information contained in an acquisition announcement is generally less standard and more complicated to process. Therefore, investor inattention is less likely around this event. In this study we test the existence of investor inattention for a sample of all-cash acquisition announcements of listed and unlisted target firms released by listed Spanish firms from 1998 to 2018. Cash acquisitions allow us to control for the strategic behavior of overvalued companies…
