Patsy Healey and Collaborative Planning (2005): Re-thinking Democracy in the ‘Reasoning in Public’ Arena
2022
The interpretation of the notion of citizenship has led some authors to the conclusion of the necessity of overcoming a ‘restricted conception’ of citizenship, in order to gain a more inclusive recognition of a cosmopolitan, rather than a mere universal, recognition of rights. So, three core issues are tightly intertwined in this paper: the controversial issue of citizenship in its multiple facets: the formal that is institutional, the substantial and the denied one; the role of planning and its ethical implications; and the very idea of democracy in its dichotomy: institutional versus substantial. Patsy Healey’s work offers us a wide set of normative perspectives and intellectual stimuli, …

Seek and you shall find? A content analysis on the diversity of five search engines’ results on political queries
2020
Search engines are important political news sources and should thus provide users with diverse political information an important precondition of a well-informed citizenry. The search engines algorithmic content selection strongly influences the diversity of the content received by the users particularly since most users highly trust search engines and often click on only the first result. A widespread concern is that users are not informed diversely by search engines, but how far this concern applies has hardly been investigated. Our study is the first to investigate content diversity provided by five search engines on ten current political issues in Germany. The findings show t…
INDIVIDUO E PERSONA NEL COMUNITARISMO DEL NOVECENTO ITALIANO
2022
This contribution is dedicated to the community season that spreads in Italy after World War II to build a new democratic society. The protagonists of this spontaneous movement are some masters who, like Capitini, Olivetti, Zucconi, Don Milani and Dolci, carry out educational practices that transform the community into a privileged place for the flowering of the person. The community is the only horizon where the difficult passage from being an individual, I and an isolated atom, to being a person, a relational subject open to other human beings, takes place.
The media competence as a challenge for educommunication : tools of evaluation
2014
08. Recognition and the ideology of merit
2015
This paper discusses pathological forms that the ideal of merit takes in ideological uses of meritocratic ideas. According to the French philosopher Dominique Girardot (2011) the possibility of our genuinely recognizing one another is impaired by the ideology of merit: this new ideology standardizes recognition and forces competition, thus creating hierarchies and what Axel Honneth calls social pathologies. The ideology also threatens the category of action in Hannah Arendt’s (1958) sense. The paper elucidates Girardot’s stance and sketches a comparison between Honneth’s and Girardot’s views on recognition. Despite the explicit connection to Honneth’s theory, Girardot actually creates an Ar…
