Probabilities to Accept Languages by Quantum Finite Automata

1999

We construct a hierarchy of regular languages such that the current language in the hierarchy can be accepted by 1-way quantum finite automata with a probability smaller than the corresponding probability for the preceding language in the hierarchy. These probabilities converge to 1/2.

Rapid Expansion of Acute Myeloid Leukemia-Reactive Cytotoxic T Cells from CD8+CD62L+ Blood Lymphocytes of HLA-Matched Healthy Donors In Vitro

2006

Abstract Allogeneic cytotoxic T-lymphocyte (CTL) therapy in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is hampered by the poor efficiency of growing leukemia-reactive CTLs from healthy donors in vitro. We established an allogeneic mini-mixed lymphocyte-leukemia culture (MLLC) approach by stimulating comparably small numbers (104/well) of CD8+ T cells isolated from healthy donors against irradiated primary AML blasts in 96-well plates. Prior to use, CD8+ T cells were immunomagnetically separated into a CD62L(high)+ subset enriched for naive precursors and central memory cells as well as a CD62L(low)+/negative subset containing effector memory cells. The culture medium contained IL-7, IL-12, and IL-15. Aft…

Soliton Solutions with Real Poles in the Alekseev formulation of the Inverse-Scattering method

1999

A new approach to the inverse-scattering technique of Alekseev is presented which permits real-pole soliton solutions of the Ernst equations to be considered. This is achieved by adopting distinct real poles in the scattering matrix and its inverse. For the case in which the electromagnetic field vanishes, some explicit solutions are given using a Minkowski seed metric. The relation with the corresponding soliton solutions that can be constructed using the Belinskii-Zakharov inverse-scattering technique is determined.

A shallow water SPH model with PML boundaries

2015

Abstract We focus on the study and implementation of Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) numerical code to deal with non-reflecting boundary conditions, starting from the Perfect Matched Layer (PML) approach. Basically, the method exploits the concept of a physical damping which acts on a fictitious layer added to the edges of computational domain. In this paper, we develop the study of time dependent shallow waves propagating on a finite 2D-XY plane domain and their behavior in the presence of circular and, more generic, rectangular boundary absorbing layers. In particular, an analysis of variation of the layer׳s thickness versus the absorbing efficiency is conducted. In our model, the m…

Regular and singular pulse and front solutions and possible isochronous behavior in the short-pulse equation: Phase-plane, multi-infinite series and …

2014

In this paper we employ three recent analytical approaches to investigate the possible classes of traveling wave solutions of some members of a family of so-called short-pulse equations (SPE). A recent, novel application of phase-plane analysis is first employed to show the existence of breaking kink wave solutions in certain parameter regimes. Secondly, smooth traveling waves are derived using a recent technique to derive convergent multi-infinite series solutions for the homoclinic (heteroclinic) orbits of the traveling-wave equations for the SPE equation, as well as for its generalized version with arbitrary coefficients. These correspond to pulse (kink or shock) solutions respectively o…

Dissipative solitons for mode-locked lasers

2012

International audience; Dissipative solitons are localized formations of an electromagnetic field that are balanced through an energy exchange with the environment in presence of nonlinearity, dispersion and/or diffraction. Their growing use in the area of passively mode-locked lasers is remarkable: the concept of a dissipative soliton provides an excellent framework for understanding complex pulse dynamics and stimulates innovative cavity designs. Reciprocally, the field of mode-locked lasers serves as an ideal playground for testing the concept of dissipative solitons and revealing their unusual dynamics. This Review provides basic definitions of dissipative solitons, summarizes their imp…
