Cetuximab +/- chemotherapy enhances dendritic cell-mediated phagocytosis of colon cancer cells and ignites a highly efficient colon cancer antigen-sp…

2012

Cetuximab is a human/mouse chimeric IgG1 monoclonal antibody (mAb) to epidermal growth factor receptor, approved for colorectal carcinoma treatment in combination with chemotherapy. The immune-mediated effects elicited by its human fraction of crystallization moiety might critically contribute to the overall anti-tumor effectiveness of the antibody. We therefore investigated cetuximab ability to promote colon cancer cell opsonization and phagocytosis by human dendritic cells (DCs) that are subsequently engaged in antigen-cross presentation to cytotoxic T-lymphocyte (CTL) precursors. Human colon cancer cell lines were evaluated for susceptibility to DC-mediated phagocytosis before and after …

Towards Adoptive Immunotherapy Using High Affinity T Cell Receptors

2003

The hdm2 oncoprotein is frequently overexpressed in a variety of human malignancies, including acute myeloid and lymphoblastic leukemia. Synthetic peptides representative of hdm2 sequences were tested for their binding to A2.1. HLA-A2.1. (/Kb)-Tg mice were immunized with A2.1-binding hdm2 peptides in order to induce A2.1-restricted and hdm2-specific CTL. A2.1-restricted CTL lines obtained from both A2.1 and HuCD8 × A2.1/Kb-Tg mice were able to recognize a synthetic 8-mer peptide representative of a N-terminal hdm2 sequence. These CTL were capable of recognizing and lysing Saos-2 cells transfected with the hdm2 gene as opposed to the parental cell line that lacks any detectable hdm2 expressi…

Probabilistic Logic under Coherence: Complexity and Algorithms

2005

In previous work [V. Biazzo, A. Gilio, T. Lukasiewicz and G. Sanfilippo, Probabilistic logic under coherence, model-theoretic probabilistic logic, and default reasoning in System P, Journal of Applied Non-Classical Logics 12(2) (2002) 189---213.], we have explored the relationship between probabilistic reasoning under coherence and model-theoretic probabilistic reasoning. In particular, we have shown that the notions of g-coherence and of g-coherent entailment in probabilistic reasoning under coherence can be expressed by combining notions in model-theoretic probabilistic reasoning with concepts from default reasoning. In this paper, we continue this line of research. Based on the above sem…

Oman äidinkielen opetuksen kehittäminen : toiminnallinen kirja-arkku opettajien työkaluna

2015

Tutkimus on kvalitatiivinen tapaustutkimus, jossa selvitetään oman äidinkielen opettajien käsityksiä kielen opettamisesta sekä heidän kokemuksiaan ActLib -projektista. Lisäksi tut-kimuksessa tarkastellaan, mitä kielen eri osa-alueita: puhumista, kirjoittamista, luetun ym-märtämistä ja kuullun ymmärtämistä, opettajat pitävät tärkeinä ja mitä osa-alueista voidaan harjoituttaa tutkittavien laatimien oppimateriaalien avulla. ActLib -projektin tavoitteena on rakentaa internet-alustalle monikielinen ja -kulttuurinen materiaalipankki, jota opettajat voivat hyödyntää kielen ja kirjallisuuden opetuksessa. Tutkimus toteutettiin haastattelemalla neljää projektiin osallistunutta opettajaa kevään 2014 a…

Efficacy of sublingual immunotherapy with grass allergens for seasonal allergic rhinitis: A systematic review and meta-analysis

2010

Background The benefit of sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) with grass allergens for seasonal allergic rhinitis has been extensively studied, but data on efficacy are still equivocal. Objective To assess the effectiveness of SLIT with grass allergens in the reduction of symptoms and medication in patients with seasonal allergic rhinitis to grass pollen. Methods Computerized bibliographic searches of MEDLINE (1995-2010) were supplemented by hand searches of reference lists. Studies were included if they were double-blind randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing SLIT to placebo and if they included patients with history of allergy to grass pollen treated with natural grass pollen extracts.…

Efficacy of proteolytic enzyme bromelain on health outcomes after third molar surgery. Systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized clinical tri…

2019

Background Bromelain is a cysteine protease isolated from pineapple with a range of biological properties including platelet aggregation inhibition and anti-inflammatory effects. Recent studies have evaluated the clinical implications of bromelain in reducing postoperative inflammatory complications after third molar surgery, but the results are contrasting. This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated the effects of bromelain on health outcomes in patients submitted to third molar surgery. Material and Methods The study was conducted following the PRISMA statement. Searches were conducted in six electronic databases and Google Scholar from inception to May 2018. The following element…

Rheumatoid arthritis affects left ventricular mass: Systematic review and meta-analysis.

2015

Abstract Background Cardiovascular disease represents one of the most important extra-articular causes of morbidity and mortality in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Evidences showed that several cardiac structures can be affected during the course of the disease as well as abnormalities of left ventricular diastolic filling. Contrasting data are available about left ventricular mass (LVM) involvement in patients asymptomatic for cardiovascular disease. The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis is to summarize the effects of RA on LVM in rheumatoid arthritis patients without cardiovascular disease. Methods A systematic research of the current case–control studies was c…

Effect of Therapeutic Aquatic Exercise on Symptoms and Function Associated With Lower Limb Osteoarthritis: Systematic Review With Meta-Analysis

2014

BackgroundCurrent management of osteoarthritis (OA) focuses on pain control and maintaining physical function through pharmacological, nonpharmacological, and surgical treatments. Exercise, including therapeutic aquatic exercise (TAE), is considered one of the most important management options. Nevertheless, there is no up-to-date systematic review describing the effect of TAE on symptoms and function associated with lower limb OA.PurposeThe purpose of this study was to conduct a systematic review with meta-analysis to determine the effect of TAE on symptoms and function associated with lower limb OA.Data SourcesThe data sources used in this study were: MEDLINE, PubMed, EMBASE, CINAHL, PEDr…
