The onset of the rainy season and farmers’ sowing strategy for pearl millet cultivation in Southwest Niger

A multi-year (2004-2009) field survey of on-farm sowing practices in 10 villages located in south-west Niger close to Niamey, is analysed to investigate the relationships (i) between rainfall and the sowing date of pearl millet and the risk of sowing failure, (ii) between sowing and meteorological/agro-climatic onset dates, (iii) between sowing/onset dates, and simulated and observed yield/biomass at the end of the season. Even if some villages sow without any synchronous or anterior rainfall, most parcels (73% out of the 1551 available cases) are sown during and just after a 2-day wet spell receiving at least 10 mm. Yoko Tawada is a famous German-Japanese author she lives since 1982 in Germany, where she writes in Japanese and German. Sudabeh Mohafez is a German-Iranian author that she lives since 1979 in Germany and she writes only in German. This essay examines how Tawada and Mohafez approach the native country in their works. The focus of this study intends to show what different identity processes have each writers and how they are described in Akzentfrei, 2016 of Tawada and Wüstenhimmel Sternenland, 2004 of Mohafez.

Suffering to Music - Although, in its relation to suffering, music is generally reputed for possessing therapeutic virtues, several iconographie and written sources dating from the thirteenth to the fifteenth centuries attribute a harmful influence to music. This ambivalence was based on the correlation between the intensity of suffering and that of the sonorous quality of musical instruments, which in the Middle Ages were divided into two great families in accordance to the sound volume they produced. Consequently it was according to their high and strident or low and soft sonorities that the instruments were thought to act on suffering, either amplifying it or alleviating it.

Abstract The microbial degradation of vinyl acetate (VA) by Pseudomonas fluorescens PCM 2123 strain was studied in both batch and continuous modes. The purpose of the experiments was to determine the kinetic model of the cell growth and biodegradation rate of vinyl acetate (VA), which was the sole carbon and energy source for tested microorganisms. Cross-contaminations of a cell line with cells of different species represent a potential risk in laboratories handling human and animal cells. Therefore, it is necessary to control such contaminations. Tests based on mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) are used in forensic analysis, phylogenetic studies and in food authentication. However, the use of mtDNA in quality controls of cell cultures is recent. Mitochondrial sequence differences of closely related animal species are five- to tenfold higher than those of nuclear genes. Fumonisins are mycotoxins produced by Fusarium verticillioides that commonly contaminate maize and maize products. The present work shows the results of a comparative study of three different fermentation's techniques (solid and liquid medium of corn and a solid agarized medium) for the production of fumonisins B-1, B-2 and B-3 with strains of F. verticillioides.
