Laparoscopic subtotal gastrectomy for the treatment of advanced gastric cancer: a comparison with open procedure at the beginning of the learning cur…
2017
Background: In the last decades, after some initial concern, laparoscopic subtotal gastrectomy (LSG) is gaining popularity also for the treatment of advanced gastric cancer (AGC). The aim of this study is to compare a single surgeon initial experience on LSG and open subtotal gastrectomy in terms of surgical safety and radicality, postoperative recovery and midterm oncological outcomes. Methods: a case control study was conducted matching the first 13 LSG for AGC with 13 open procedures performed by the same surgeon. Operative and pathological data, postoperative parameters and midterm oncological outcomes were analyzed. Results: There was no significant difference in mortality (0%) and mor…
Association between the multidimensional prognostic index and mortality during 15 Years of Follow-up in the InCHIANTI Study
2020
Abstract Background Multidimensional Prognostic Index (MPI) is recognized as a prognostic tool in hospitalized patients, but data on the value of MPI in community-dwelling older persons are limited. Using data from a representative cohort of community-dwelling persons, we tested the hypothesis that MPI explains mortality during 15 years of follow-up. Methods A standardized comprehensive geriatric assessment was used to calculate the MPI and to categorize participants in low-, moderate-, and high-risk classes. The results were reported as hazard ratios (HRs) and the accuracy was evaluated with the area under the curve (AUC), with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) and the C-index. We also report…
Enumerative Aspects of the Gross-Siebert Program
2015
For the last decade, Mark Gross and Bernd Siebert have worked with a number of collaborators to push forward a program whose aim is an understanding of mirror symmetry. In this chapter, we’ll present certain elements of the “Gross-Siebert” program. We begin by sketching its main themes and goals. Next, we review the basic definitions and results of two main tools of the program, logarithmic and tropical geometry. These tools are then used to give tropical interpretations of certain enumerative invariants. We study in detail the tropical pencil of elliptic curves in a toric del Pezzo surface. We move on to a basic illustration of mirror symmetry, Gross’s tropical construction for \(\mathbb{P…
Vector Bundles and Torsion Free Sheaves on Degenerations of Elliptic Curves
2006
In this paper we give a survey about the classification of vector bundles and torsion free sheaves on degenerations of elliptic curves. Coherent sheaves on singular curves of arithmetic genus one can be studied using the technique of matrix problems or via Fourier-Mukai transforms, both methods are discussed here. Moreover, we include new proofs of some classical results about vector bundles on elliptic curves.
Characterization and quantitation of mixtures of alkyl ether sulfates and carboxylic acids by capillary electrophoresis with indirect photometric det…
2003
The separation, characterization, and determination of mixtures of alkyl ether sulfates (AES) and fatty acids (C10-C16) in background electrolytes (BGEs) containing acetonitrile (ACN)-water mixtures is addressed. Due to inhibition of the ionization of the carboxylate groups, the migration time and the resolution between the fatty acids decreased when the water content of the BGE was reduced, but efficiency and resolution between the AES oligomers improved. The migration times increased and resolution improved by substituting 5% ACN by an equivalent amount of dioxane. A complete separation of the two surfactant classes, up to the AES oligomers with 8 ethylene oxide units (EOs) with respect t…

Background. This thesis consist of parts(i)Introduction in wich we present the clinical problem of rhinitis;(ii)the methods to evaluate the diagnostic choises;(iii)the rational errors in Allergy,(iv)the experimental part of thesis with wich we developed the software ARTSTAT,wich is the application of the analysis reported. Objective: We studied the ability of the logistic regression model obtained by the evaluaqtion of a database, to detect patients with positive allergy skin prick test(SPT)and patients with negative SPT. The model developed was valitated using the data set obtained from another medical institution. Methods: The analysis was carried out using a database obtained from a quest…
Gain lifetime measurement of a Ni-like Ag soft X-ray laser
2012
International audience; Experimental results of a two-stage Ni-like Ag soft X-ray laser operated in a seed-amplifier configuration are presented. Both targets were pumped applying the double-pulse grazing incidence technique with intrinsic travelling wave excitation. The injection of the seed X-ray laser into the amplifier target was realized by a spherical mirror. The results show amplification of the seed X-ray laser and allow for a direct measurement of the gain lifetime. The experimental configuration is suitable for providing valuable input for computational simulations. (C) 2012 Optical Society of America
Computer simulations for bioequivalence trials: Selection of analyte in BCS class II and IV drugs with first-pass metabolism, two metabolic pathways …
2018
A semi-physiological two compartment pharmacokinetic model with two active metabolites (primary (PM) and secondary metabolites (SM)) with saturable and non-saturable pre-systemic efflux transporter, intestinal and hepatic metabolism has been developed. The aim of this work is to explore in several scenarios which analyte (parent drug or any of the metabolites) is the most sensitive to changes in drug product performance (i.e. differences in in vivo dissolution) and to make recommendations based on the simulations outcome. A total of 128 scenarios (2 Biopharmaceutics Classification System (BCS) drug types, 2 levels of KM Pgp, in 4 metabolic scenarios at 2 dose levels in 4 quality levels of t…
Quantitative colorimetric analysis of some inorganic salts using digital photography
2011
An analytical imaging approach to the quantitation of dissolved chemical species absorbed in the visible spectral region is reported. The approach uses digital images of a series of standard solutions of the target substance and their processing with appropriate software to assign a numeric value to each standard in terms of color intensity. Such a value is directly proportional to the analyte concentration and allows the construction of a calibration graph. The results thus obtained are compared with those provided by the classical spectrophotometricmethod used to run calibration curves for colored substances. The chemical imaging technique is relative simple and affordable; in fact, it ca…
A mathematical model based on the limit dilution method to obtain linear calibration curves which eliminate the matrix effect in quantitative analysi…
1995
Abstract We propose a mathematical model from an analytical application viewpoint inspired in the limit dilution method. The theoretical development of the model and its results are given. The model shows that there is a linear relation between the inverse of fluorescence intensity and the inverse of the dilution factor; each analytic system (sample, diluent and analyte) is characterised by a general linear function which is easily obtained. The analytical applications arising from this linearity are of great importance in X-ray fluorescence analysis. The following immediate applications are proposed: direct procurement of the total correction factor Y/H, rapid calculation of the fluorescen…
