Validation of the 2009 TNM Version in a Large Multi-Institutional Cohort of Patients Treated for Renal Cell Carcinoma: Are Further Improvements Neede…

2010

Background: A new edition of the TNM was recently released that includes modifications for the staging system of kidney cancers. Specifically, T2 cancers were subclassified into T2a and T2b ( 10 cm), tumors with renal vein involvement or perinephric fat involvement were classified as T3a cancers, and those with adrenal involvement were classified as T4 cancers. Objective: Our aim was to validate the recently released edition of the TNM staging system for primary tumor classification in kidney cancer. Design, setting, and participants: Our multicenter retrospective study consisted of 5339 patients treated in 16 academic Italian centers. Intervention: Patients underwent either radical or part…

Self-Perception of Dependence as an Indicator of Smartphone Addiction—Establishment of a Cutoff Point in the SPAI–Spain Inventory

2020

Background: In recent years, the abusive use of the smartphone has reached a situation that could be considered pathological. In this sense, different instruments to assess this problematic use or addiction to the smartphone are used. One of these instruments is the Smartphone Addition Inventory (SPAI), which has been validated in the Spanish language (SPAI-Spain). The main difficulty of these scales is to establish a cut-off point that determines such mobile addiction. On the other hand, self-perception was used in different addictions as a predictor of the problem. Aim: The objective of this study was to establish the cut-off point in the scores of the SPAI-Spain, using as a reference the…

Accuracy of different cutoffs of the waist‐to‐height ratio as a screening tool for cardiometabolic risk in children and adolescents: A systematic rev…

2021

The present systematic review with meta-analysis sought to estimate the accuracy of different waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) cutoff ranges as risk indicators for cardiometabolic health in different populations of children and adolescents. Systematic searches were undertaken to identify studies in apparently healthy participants aged 3–18 years that conducted receiver operating characteristic curve analysis and reported area under the receiver operating characteristic curves for WHtR with any cardiometabolic biomarker. Forty-one cross-sectional studies were included in the meta-analysis, including 138,561 young individuals (50% girls). Higher area under summary receiver operating characteristi…

Right ventricular strain assessment by cardiovascular magnetic resonance myocardial feature tracking allows optimized risk stratification in Takotsub…

2018

Background A substantial number of patients with Takotsubo syndrome (TTS) exhibit right ventricular (RV) dysfunction which has been associated with adverse outcome. The aim of this study was to assess the clinical and prognostic value of RV myocardial strain in TTS using cardiovascular magnetic resonance myocardial feature tracking (CMR-FT). Methods CMR-FT was performed in a core laboratory to determine RV longitudinal strain in 134 TTS patients undergoing CMR in median 2 days after admission to 2 experienced centers. For comparison, RV involvement was evaluated by sole visual assessment concerning RV contraction abnormalities. Both approaches were analyzed regarding their long-term prognos…

Temperature Sensor Based on Ge-Doped Microstructured Fibers

2009

The fundamental mode cutoff properties of Ge-doped microstructured fibers, filled with a liquid, permit the implementation of wavelength- and amplitude-encoded temperature sensors with an ultra-high sensitivity. The cutoff wavelength changes with temperature, and the thermo-optic coefficient of the liquid determines the sensitivity of the sensor. Sensitivity as high as 25 nm/∘Cis reported. In addition, simple amplitude interrogation techniques can be implemented using the same sensor heads.

Epidemiological cutoff values for fluconazole, itraconazole, posaconazole, and voriconazole for six Candida species as determined by the colorimetric…

2013

ABSTRACT In the absence of clinical breakpoints (CBP), epidemiological cutoff values (ECVs) are useful to separate wild-type (WT) isolates (without mechanisms of resistance) from non-WT isolates (those that can harbor some resistance mechanisms), which is the goal of susceptibility tests. Sensititre YeastOne (SYO) is a widely used method to determine susceptibility of Candida spp. to antifungal agents. The CLSI CBP have been established, but not for the SYO method. The ECVs for four azoles, obtained using MIC distributions determined by the SYO method, were calculated via five methods (three statistical methods and based on the MIC 50 and modal MIC). Respectively, the median ECVs (in mg/lit…

A theoretical basis for the high-frequency performance of the outer hair cell’s receptor potential

1997

The frequency response of the outer hair cell (OHC) was studied theoretically. An electrical model of the OHC was analyzed mathematically, taking into account the effect of its inherent voltage-dependent capacitance. It was found that the variations of the capacitance dependent on the membrane potential could enhance the high-frequency response of the OHC, so that its cutoff frequency could be extended into the audio range. It was found further that the enhancement of the frequency response of the OHC was strongly dependent on its resting potential and on the ratio of the maximum voltage-dependent capacitance to the membrane linear capacitance.

Direct ELISA kits as a sensitive and selective screening method for abstinence control in urine.

2011

In 2009 cutoff values of assessment criteria to testify abstinence control in order to estimate driving ability were standardized in Germany. The cutoff values are lower than required in existing guidelines like SAMHSA and there is critical discussion about detection of low concentrations by using immunoassay, especially concerning amphetamines in urine (50 ng/ml). In this study Direct ELISA kits were tested for their applicability to identify the absence of amphetamines, cannabinoids, opiates, cocaine, methadone and benzodiazepines in urine. Results were confirmed by LC/MS or GC/MS analyses. Sensitivity, specificity, predictive values (positive as well as negative) and overall misclassific…

79. Amyloid-PET analysis based on tissue probability maps

2018

Purpose The regional quantification of amyloid burden is crucial for the clinical diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease [1]. The best method to evaluate regional amyloid deposition in PET is through the use MR imaging for brain space normalization. However, since MR imaging is not always available in the clinical practice, a MR-less methodology is needed in order to compute semi-quantitative and analyze regional amyloid burden. Methods Forty-four patients with clinical evidence of dementia, underwent 18F-Florbetaben PET (FBB-PET), FDG-PET, neuropsychological assessment and cerebrospinal fluid analysis. We implemented a methodology that uses SPM12 to import and normalize the FBB-PET images in Mon…

Round Robin computer simulation of ejection probability in sputtering

1989

Abstract We have studied the ejection of a copper atom through a planar copper surface as a function of recoil velocity and depth of origin. Results were obtained from six molecular dynamics codes, four binary collision lattice simulation codes, and eight Monte Carlo codes. Most results were found with a Born-Mayer interaction potential between the atoms with Gibson 2 parameters and a planar surface barrier, but variations on this standard were allowed for, as well as differences in the adopted cutoff radius for the interaction potential, electronic stopping, and target temperature. Large differences were found between the predictions of the various codes, but the cause of these differences…
