Influence of calcination on the structural properties of earth abundant Cu2ZnSnS4

2021

Abstract In the present work, we report on the synthesis of nano-crystalline kesterite copper zinc tin sulfide (CZTS) in powder form and the post-annealing process at high temperatures (calcination), and study their physical properties. We have successfully synthesized CZTS by direct fusion, and the resulting material was crushed to obtain a fine powder. Then, the resulting powder was calcined at high temperatures: 800–1000 ∘C. The calcined samples have been characterized with a number of different structural: X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and optical techniques: photoluminescence (PL), Raman and diffuse reflectance spectr…

Absolute crystallinity and photocatalytic activity of brookite TiO2 samples

2017

Abstract This study reports a method to determine the absolute crystallinity of partly crystalline brookite TiO2 photocatalysts. A natural, a commercial and various home-prepared brookite powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis, Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy and nitrogen adsorption measurements. The absolute crystallinity was calculated from the ratio between the full width at half maximum intensity of the (121) X-ray diffraction peaks of the brookite samples and the (111) peak of CaF2 as internal standard. The photocatalytic activity of the powders was tested employing the photodegradation of 4-nitrophenol as well…

Nanofibrous photocatalysts from electrospun nanocapsules

2017

We present the design of multicompartment metal oxide/silica nanofibrous photocatalysts by colloid-electrospinning and subsequent calcination. During the calcination process, silica nanomaterials are cemented to form the fibrous framework and metal oxide precursors are crystallized inside and onto the fibers. This multicompartment nanofibrous structure, constructed with nanoparticles and core-shell nanocapsules, is therefore beneficial for the separation of the materials and the light utilization due to the multiple reflections and scattering of incident light in the cavities. The photocatalytic activity of the fibers was verified by the successful degradation of a model dye rhodamine B. Th…

CATALYTIC OXIDE COATINGS ON CERAMIC SUPPORTS.

2007

Thin porous oxide coatings composed of Al2O3, SiO2, TiO2 and ZrO2, respectively, on ceramic carriers have been produced by either a wash-coat procedure or by liquid coating followed by solidification. By dehydration and calcination of the supported ceramics the pore texture was stabilised. The thickness of the layer, its homogeneity, specific surface area, porosity and pore volume distribution have been shown to be controlled by the properties of the oxides deposited, and by the conditions of the coating procedures. On the basis of the results obtained, it is evident that porous oxide layers can be prepared with tailor-made and desired properties. The procedures described also permit the in…

The synthesis of a hybrid graphene–nickel/manganese mixed oxide and its performance in lithium-ion batteries

2012

Abstract Mixing of aqueous suspensions of delaminated NiMn layered double hydroxide (LDH) and graphene oxide leads to the instantaneous precipitation of a hybrid material that after calcination under inert atmosphere at 450 °C leads to Ni6MnO8 nanoparticles deposited on larger reconstituted graphene sheets. This material exhibits electrical conductivity similar to graphite, superparamagnetism and can be used as an anode for Li-ion batteries. A maximum capacity value of 1030 mA h g−1 was found during the first discharge, and capacity values higher than 400 mA h g−1 were still achieved after 10 cycles. The methodology used here should allow the preparation of a large variety of hybrid graphen…

Support effect on the structure and CO oxidation activity of Cu-Cr mixed oxides over Al2O3 and SiO2

2009

Abstract Cu-Cr based catalysts supported on silica and alumina with 5 wt% total loading of (CuO + Cr2O3), in different molar ratios, were prepared by wet impregnation. The samples were studied by nitrogen adsorption isotherms (BET), temperature-programmed reduction (TPR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Their catalytic activity was tested in the CO oxidation reaction. Different structures were obtained in dependence of the support, the atomic ratio and the calcination temperature. In particular, whereas on Al2O3 there was no experimental evidence for interaction between Cu and Cr, over the silica supported systems formation of new phases CuCr2O4 and CuCrO…

Novel chemical reaction co-precipitation method for the synthesis of apatite-type lanthanum silicate as an electrolyte in SOFC

2017

Abstract Apatite-type lanthanum silicates have promising performance as electrolyte materials for IT-SOFC. A novel co-precipitation method, based on chemical reaction, is employed in the synthesis process. The reaction products: La(OH) 3 and SiO 2 are used as precursors of apatite synthesis process. The precursors are mixed in molecular scale which provide much conducive to formation reaction. The pure apatite phase composition is obtained with quite moderate temperature of 700 °C for 6 h which shows considerable ionic conductivity performance. The conductivity decreases when you increase the calcination temperature in according with XRD measurement. The XRD measurement shows the presence o…

Improvement of photocatalytic and photoelectrochemical activity of ZnO/TiO2 core/shell system through additional calcination: Insight into the mechan…

2017

Abstract ZnO/TiO2 composites were prepared by sol-gel deposition of TiO2 on ZnO nanorods hydrothermally grown on electrically conductive indium tin oxide substrate (ITO). It has been shown that the ZnO/TiO2 interface plays a key role in enhancement of photodecomposition of methylene blue (MB) used as a model test pollutant, under monochromatic light irradiation (400 nm). The increase of photocatalytic activity was attributed to the shift of absorption edge of ZnO/TiO2 towards visible light in comparison with bare TiO2. Further enhancement of photocatalytic activity of ZnO/TiO2 was achieved through its additional calcination at 450 °C for 3 h. This treatment brings 40% increase in the rate o…

H3PW12O40 supported on mesoporous MCM-41 and Al-MCM-41 materials: preparation and characterisation

2011

MCM-41 and Al–MCM-41 has been synthesized using cetyl-trimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) surfactant as template and adding the silica precursor to aqueous solutions containing CTAB. The obtained solids were calcined at 600 °C for 4 h. HPW heteropolyacid supported on the mesoporous were prepared using the incipient wetness method. The characterization of materials was performed by X-ray diffraction, Transmission Electron Microscopy, N2 adsorption, 29Si Cross Polarization–Magic Angle Spinning and 27Al MAS NMR. Results showed that the hexagonal structure is obtained in both cases. The Aluminium species are located inside an extra-framework. The impregnation reduces the surface area of the mesopo…
