A subgroup of dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons responds to noxious heat with an influx of cations carried by specific ion channels such as the transient receptor potential channel of the vanilloid receptor type, subtype 1 (TRPV1). Application of capsaicin induces a reversible facilitation of these currents. This facilitation could be an interaction of two agonists at their common receptor or be caused by an influx of calcium ions into the cell. The aim of this study was to investigate whether prenatal exposure to the cannabinoid CB1 receptor agonist WIN 55,212-2 (WIN) at a daily dose devoid of overt signs of toxicity and/or gross malformations (0.5 mg/kg, gestation days 5-20), influences cortical glutamatergic neurotransmission, learning and emotional reactivity in rat offspring. The cytotoxic evaluation of mineral trioxide aggregate and bioaggregate in the subcutaneous connective tissue of rats

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare the cytotoxic effects of ProRoot MTA and DiaRoot BA, a bioceramic nanoparticulate cement, on subcutaneous rat tissue. Study D esign: Fifty Sprouge Dawley rats were used in this study. Polyethylene tubes filled with ProRoot MTA and DiaRoot BioAggregate, along with a control group of empty, were implanted into dorsal connective tissue of rats for 7, 15, 30, 60, and 90 days. After estimated time intervals the rats were sacrificed. Studies on the mitochondrial generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) generally focus on chronic nutrient exposure. Here, we investigate whether transient mitochondrial ROS production linked to glucose-induced increased respiration might act as a signal for monitoring insulin secretion. Purification of a glucose-binding protein from rat liver nuclei. Evidence for a role in targeting of nuclear mRNP to nuclear pore complex.

A nuclear carbohydrate-binding protein with a molecular mass of 67 kDa (CBP67), which is specific for glucose residues, was purified to essential homogeneity from rat liver nuclear extracts. This protein could also be isolated from nuclear ribonucleoprotein (RNP) complexes by extraction in the presence of 0.6 M or 2 M NaCl, but it was absent in polysomal RNP complex. The binding of the purified protein, which has an isoelectric point of 7.3, to glucose-containing glycoconjugates depends on the presence of Ca2+ and Mg2+. Abstract Caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) exerts pharmacological actions (e.g. anti-inflammatory, chemopreventive) which are relevant for potential clinical application in the digestive tract. However, no study has been published on its possible effects on intestinal motility, to date. We investigated whether low-pressure reperfusion may attenuate postischemic contractile dysfunction, limits necrosis and apoptosis after a prolonged hypothermic ischemia, and inhibits mitochondrial permeability transition-pore (MPTP) opening.
