EVASPA (EVapotranspiration Assessment from SPAce) tool: an overview

International audience; Evapotranspiration (ET) is a fundamental variable of the hydrological cycle and its estimation is required for irrigation management, water resources planning and environmental studies. Remote sensing provides spatially distributed cost-effective information for ET maps production at regional scale. We have developed EVASPA too for mapping ET from remote sensing data at spatial and temporal scales relevant to hydrological or agronomica studies. Lantana (Lantana camara L.) is an evergreen shrub in the Verbenaceae. In some countries, this plant has been declared a noxious weed. However, a number of sterile or near-sterile forms are cultivated as attractive flowered potted and garden plants. In early spring 2004, ≈4,000 potted, small trees of lantana grown in a screenhouse in a commercial nursery of ornamentals near Giarre, Sicily, showed symptoms of chlorosis, defoliation, and sudden collapse of the entire plant. These aboveground symptoms were associated with a reduced root system, rot of feeder roots, and brown discoloration of the base of the stem. Tanmateix, els ha passat desapercebuda la figura de la martir romana Perpetua de Cartago, jove estudiosa de l’ Eneida, que fou lligada a un pal i exposada als lleons, entre altres aspectes biografics relacionables amb el personatge curialesc de Camar. La revisio de les Actes del martiri (versions A i B, divulgades ensems) i de la novel·lada Passio Perpetuae (segle III) permet detectar coincidencies argumentals i connexions intertextuals amb la novel·la cavalleresca del segle XV. Information on aging, maturation, and growth is important for understanding life histories of organisms. In extinct dinosaurs, such information can be derived from the histological growth record preserved in the mid-shaft cortex of long bones. In Italy peat and perlite are commonly used as growth substrates in ornamental plant nurseries. Requests for ecologically sustainable growth substrates have recently focused research on the study of new media. In this context, biochar and compost, by-products of other production chains, may play a relevant role. The studies of Sicilian ancient landscapes, the histories of sites, towns and marks of antiquity, have necessarily to trace back to Tommaso Fazello’s book. Before him, nobody else had offered such a detailed depiction of ancient Sicily, and the methodology of his research is still very authentic. In addition to describing the ruins of ancient cities and identifying them (Selinunte is for instance a very special case), one could affirm that Fazello’s interest was also in the natural characterization and transformation of both rural and urban landscapes.
