EP755 Laparoscopically modified laterally extended endopelvic resection for gynecological malignancies involving pelvic side wall: a feasibility anal…

2019

Introduction/Background Lateral pelvic side wall involvement by gynecological malignancies has been considered for a long time an absolute contraindication to curative resection. Recently the surgical paradigm is challenged with the development of the Laterally Extended Endopelvic Resection, LEER. Although the LEER is perfectly standardized in open surgery, just one small experience has been published about its endoscopic feasibility. The objective of this study is to analyze the feasibility of Laparoscopically Modified Laterally Extended Endopelvic Resection, LM-LEER, in patients with gynecological malignancies involving the lateral pelvic side wall. Methodology We retrospectively evaluated…

Radical perineal prostatectomy

2004

Historically, perineal prostatectomy was the primary type of surgery for prostate cancer, performed for the first time by Billroth in 1867 mostly without visual control. However, Hugh Hampton Young received credit for the first perineal prostatectomy after reporting in 1905 his experience with a mostly visually controlled operation and new special instruments [1]. Different perineal routes of access to the prostate have been described, but the most commonly used route is Young’s suprasphincteric approach ventral to the external and internal sphincter ani. It was the mainstay of surgical treatment until by the mid of last century pelvic lymph node dissection became part of the procedure. Rad…

Systemic Review: Ozone: A Potential New Chemotherapy

2021

In the last sixty years, publications in reputed journals have shown the preclinical positive effect of ozone gas in cancer cells. However, the translation of these results into clinical practice is far away from success. A comprehensive approach is necessary for this, and oncologists and researchers need guidance from medical specialists with in-depth knowledge of ozone in medicine. In this article, we review the evidence around this question and suggest different potential research lines to those interested in this exciting field.

Prise en charge des proliférations épithéliales du sein avec et sans atypies : hyperplasie canalaire atypique, métaplasie cylindrique avec atypie, né…

2015

In the last few years, diagnostics of high-risk breast lesions (atypical ductal hyperplasia [ADH], flat epithelial atypia [FEA], lobular neoplasia: atypical lobular hyperplasia [ALH], lobular carcinoma in situ [LCIS], radial scar [RS], usual ductal hyperplasia [UDH], adenosis, sclerosing adenosis [SA], papillary breast lesions, mucocele-like lesion [MLL]) have increased with the growing number of breast percutaneous biopsies. The management of these lesions is highly conditioned by the enlarged risk of breast cancer combined with either an increased probability of finding cancer after surgery, either a possible malignant transformation (in situ or invasive cancer), or an increased probabili…

Anastomotic Techniques and Associated Morbidity in Total Minimally Invasive Transthoracic Esophagectomy

2019

Objective: The aim of this study was to describe anastomotic techniques used for total minimally invasive transthoracic esophagectomy (ttMIE) and to analyze the associated morbidity. Background: ttMIE faces increasing application in surgical treatment of esophageal cancer. For esophagogastric reconstruction, different anastomotic techniques are currently used, but their effect on postoperative anastomotic leakage and morbidity has not been investigated. Patients and Methods: Patients were selected from a basic dataset, collected during a 5-year period from 13 international surgical high-volume centers. Endpoints were anastomotic leakage rate and postoperative morbidity in correlation to ana…

Superficial Bladder Cancer Therapy: A Review

2005

Most bladder cancers present as a superficial disease, confined to the bladder mucosa or submucosal layer, without muscle invasion. Most superficial tumors have a propensity for recurrence after transurethral resection; some have a high risk for progression to muscle invasion. The treatment aim in superficial bladder cancer with intravesical therapy is three-fold: (1) eradicate existing disease, (2) prevention of recurrence, (3) prevention of tumor progression. The prognostic factors (tumor stage, grade, size, number and recurrence pattern) allow the stratification of tumors in different risk groups to plan treatment. Studies on pharmacokinetics have proved the efficacy of optimized drug de…
