Francis Osborne (1593-1659) was the celebrated author of The Advice to a Son, a very popular book in his days. He also wrote some tracts and pamphlets during the so called “Engagement Controversy”, that led to the publication of many republican writings to support the new regime. Osborn’s intellectual and ideological contribution was peculiar, because his condemn of tyranny was carried on in a political language that used Machiavellian ideas, the republican concept of liberty and the new and well-known expression “reason of state”.

The supercritical hydrothermal synthesis of nanopowders (especially metal oxide) has been widely studied. To the best of our knowledge, no nanoparticle formation mechanism has been published yet. In this prospect, this study is dedicated to the understanding of metal oxide nanoparticle nucleation and growth mechanisms. For this purpose, zinc oxide is used as a model material. To improve adherence between coating (epoxy) and substrate, a surface preparation is required. Abstract The Pizzo Lupo section (Sicanian Mts, central Sicily) is an Upper Triassic–Lower Jurassic condensed deep-water succession, where the relationships among synsedimentary tectonic, soft-sediment deformations, volcanism and lithological changes reflect the evolution of a rift-basin. The morphostructural setting of the studied basin appears as a gently dipping slope where a fault-delimited area (graben to halfgraben) was developed. Affirmer qu’on peut juger d’une société en visitant ses prisons, c’est affirmer que la pénalité manifeste la nature du lien politique. Ainsi, l’exclusion que réalise l’emprisonnement pratiqué actuellement en France traduit concrètement, par sa passivité et sa quête de neutralité, l’imaginaire du contrat social, attestant que l’abolition de la peine de mort n’a pas encore fait l’objet d’une réception pleine et entière. Incarcérer autrement, incarcérer pour inclure en condamnant non à une durée mais à une mise en action, participerait donc à régénérer la manière dont nous envisageons ce qui nous unit.

Abstract Modelling regional-scale attenuation of seismic waves at ~1 Hz is challenging, especially when these waves propagate across both continental and oceanic crust. Recent developments in seismic imaging and modelling have provided us with the computational tools necessary to reconstruct these mixed settings using deterministic (coherent) and stochastic (coda) information. Here, we present new tomographic maps of coda-attenuation for both the Italian peninsula and the Tyrrhenian Sea. Kernel-based coda attenuation imaging in the diffusive approximation is tested in the oceanic environment, highlighting a non-diffusive behaviour across the Southern Tyrrhenian Sea.
