Abstract This work presents an approach to study the performance of novel targets able to overcome cancer stem cell chemoresistance, based on the voltammetric data for microparticulate films of natural or synthetic alkaloids from the canthin-6-one series. A comparison of this voltammetric technique with conventional solution phase electrochemistry suggests the differences in the anti-proliferative activity of canthin-6-ones could be tentatively correlated to their different capacity to generate semiquinone radical anions. These data also match theoretical calculations.

Manipulative parasites can alter the phenotype of intermediate hosts in various ways. However, it is unclear whether such changes are just by-products of infection or adaptive and enhance transmission to the final host. Phylogenetic analyses based on 79 ribosomal proteins of 38 metazoans, partly derived from 6 new expressed sequence tag projects for Ectoprocta, Entoprocta, Sipuncula, Annelida, and Acanthocephala, indicate the monophyly of Bryozoa comprising Ectoprocta and Entoprocta, 2 taxa that have been separated for more than a century based on seemingly profound morphological differences. Our results also show that bryozoans are more closely related to Neotrochozoa, including molluscs and annelids, than to Syndermata, the latter comprising Rotifera and Acanthocephala. ABSTRACT We describe here a new machaeracanthid acanthodian (Machaeracanthus goujeti n. sp.), based on isolated spines, scales and scapulocoracoids from the Lower Devonian (Lochkovian-Pragian) of the Nogueras Formation, Celtiberia, Spain. The new taxon also includes a fragmentary spine and isolated scales from the Lower Devonian of northern Spain (Palencia and Cantabrian Mountains) and western France (Saint-Cenere) originally assigned to Machaeracanthus sp. La CSF correspond à des sédiments calcaréo-argileux déposés dans le sud-est du bassin de Paris (France) à l'Hauterivien inférieur (Crétacé inférieur). Ces dépôts sont datés de la chronozone à Acanthodiscus radiatus, un intervalle de temps qui a correspondu à un haut niveau marin général en Europe de l'Ouest.
