Rétro-observation des processus de décrue glaciaire à partir de peintures. Apports de la mono-photogrammétrie
2019
Alpine landscapes are indicators of climatic variations recognized through their geomorphological and glacial dynamics. Inthis field, the old documents (photographs, engravings, paintings…) constitute important data sources, used for the purposesof retro-observations. The classical methods consist, most often, to exploit them in descriptive works then being the subject ofnaturalistic cartographic retranscriptions. Today the contribution of innovative methods of treatment, such as mono-photogrammetry,offer new perspectives. It is thus possible to extract quantitative information from qualitative archives. This approachallows, in addition to a conventional landscape analysis, to project the i…
Conceptualizing ecosystem tipping points within a physiological framework
2017
Connecting the nonlinear and often counterintuitive physiological effects of multiple environmental drivers to the emergent impacts on ecosystems is a fundamental challenge. Unfortunately, the disconnect between the way “stressors” (e.g., warming) is considered in organismal (physiological) and ecological (community) contexts continues to hamper progress. Environmental drivers typically elicit biphasic physiological responses, where performance declines at levels above and below some optimum. It is also well understood that species exhibit highly variable response surfaces to these changes so that the optimum level of any environmental driver can vary among interacting species. Thus, specie…
I musei naturalistici come presidi ambientali e culturali. L'Orto botanico di Palermo
2013
Checklist of the Mammal Collection Preserved at the University of Palermo under the Framework of the National Biodiversity Future Center
2023
The latest reorganization of the Vertebrate collections preserved at the “Pietro Doderlein” Museum of Zoology of the University of Palermo (Italy) has made it possible to draw up a check-list of the Mammal taxa present in the stuffed (M), fluid-preserved (ML) and anatomical (AN) collections. The intervention was planned under the National Biodiversity Future Center (NBFC) agenda, focused on the enhancement of Italian natural history museums. The growing interest in museum collections strongly demands databases available to the academic and policy world. In this paper, we record 679 specimens belonging to 157 specific taxa arranged in 58 families and 16 orders. Most of the species (75.1%) co…
“The (anti-)establishment blues”: la doppia geografia di Sixto Rodriguez tra marginalità e sovversione
2016
The life and career of Sixto Rodríguez, the American folk-singer born in Detroit in 1942, weave together two different places. On the one hand, we find Detroit where at the turn of the Sixties Rodríguez recorded two albums without success. On the other, there is Cape Town where unknown to Rodríguez his music became very influential and its subversive contents found an unexpected space of resonance. This paper aims at investigating the double geography emerging from this astonishing musical biography. The analysis will focus on the complex relationship between musical practices and spatial formations, examining how power geometries shape and carve the field of their mutual production. If the…
The shape of the water
2016
The Po River is a living organism that breathes: it inhales and swells; it exhales and releases its energy. Between two extreme phases of overflow and shallows, there are endless variations. In Piacenza, at the riverside, hydrometric instruments also took size and shape of a special building in reinforced concrete crowned by conical elements. When the water level rises, it floods the earth gradually; it deletes some marks lapping, and then reveals other things. The water clears and continuously constructs, in a surreal atmosphere of expectation, always in the balance between the catastrophe and the regeneration of a soil that emerges like an archaeological plan. Visible volumes are like the…
Changes of several metabolic parameters of soya inoculated with phytopathogens at application nanochelates
2022
n greenhouse experiments changes in several metabolic parameters soybeans plants after inoculation by P. savastanoi pv. glycinea 9190, X. axonopodis pv. glycines 9192, BCMV, A. laidlawii on background pre-treatment by nanochelates (NHs) of V, Ge, Cu, Mo have been shown. The phenolic compounds content increased in leaves at inoculation by phytopathogens on background pre-treatment by NHs and without it. The content of H2O2 in leaves increased in variants: BCMV (+VNHs, GeNHs, CuNHs), 9192 (+VNHs, CuNHs), 9190 (+GeNHs, CuNHs), A. laidlawii+MoNHs. But it decreased in the variants: BCMV + MoNHs, A. laidlawii + VNHs, 9190 + VNHs, 9192 (+ GeNHs, CuNHs) compared to controls. The peroxidase activity…
Data and code for manuscript: Increasing human environmental footprint does not lead to biotic homogenization of forest bird communities in northern …
2023
R-code and data for replicating statistical analyses used in the study: Increasing human environmental footprint does not lead to biotic homogenization of forest bird communities in northern USA. This study examined how forest loss and increased human domination in the state of Minnesota in the USA were associated with diversity of forest birds using bird count data.
Adjuvant capecitabine in triple negative breast cancer patients with residual disease after neoadjuvant treatment: real-world evidence from CaRe, a m…
2023
BackgroundIn triple negative breast cancer patients treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy, residual disease at surgery is the most relevant unfavorable prognostic factor. Current guidelines consider the use of adjuvant capecitabine, based on the results of the randomized CREATE-X study, carried out in Asian patients and including a small subset of triple negative tumors. Thus far, evidence on Caucasian patients is limited, and no real-world data are available.MethodsWe carried out a multicenter, observational study, involving 44 oncologic centres. Triple negative breast cancer patients with residual disease, treated with adjuvant capecitabine from January 2017 through June 2021, were recrui…
