1989
Como ya nos deja entender el título, este libro presenta una explicación del papel que juegan las distintas formas de contratación laboral en una economía capitalista. Momento clave en cuanto a cambios económicos y políticos del mundo occidental.
Different meanings of ´knowledge as commodity` in the context of higher education
2013
Commodification has been and still is one of the key processes within capitalist market economies. Since the 1970s, different forms of knowledge have increasingly been subjected to this process. In this paper the commodification of knowledge in the field of higher education is defined in a broad sense as an example of the intensive enlargement of capitalism. I argue that knowledge shares some features of public goods and can be subjected to commodification both as an educational product and academic research itself. However, the simple dichotomy of public vs. private good is not nuanced enough to understand the status of knowledge within higher education. How to reconstruct this dichotomy,…
Towards a theory of transnational academic capitalism
2013
This article draws attention to the relative lack of theoretically and methodologically elaborated approaches to understand and explain the complex relations between transnationalization of higher education and globalization seen especially from the point of view of global capitalism. The main aim of this article is to contribute to the construction of a theory of transnational academic capitalism (TAC). A theory of TAC argues that those networks, practices and activities that are blurring the boundaries between higher education, markets and states are increasingly becoming transnational without supposing that this transformation implies that local and national levels are insignificant in s…
Young adults and the tuning of the entrepreneurial mindset in neoliberal capitalism
2018
Enhancing the entrepreneurial spirit of young people is a means by which their employability and future potential as well as economic growth, the core goal of national policies, are incubated. Cons...
Thana-Capitalism and the Sense of Reality
2017
Based on the contributions of Jean Baudrillard, a French well known philosopher who exerted a radical criticism to the mass-media and its position respecting to migration and terrorism, Korstanje alluded to a neologism, “Thana-Capitalism”, which situates as a new stage of production where the suffering of others is the main commodity exchanged among classes. In times of Thana Capitalism, though we horrify from refugees and their miseries or the latest terrorist blow in CNN, we have doing nothing to change reality. This begs an interesting question, how does perception form in times of thana capitalism? what is the concept of reality in the age of pseudo-reality? is the media and the spectac…
The Tale of Globalization: Capitalism, Crisis and Erosion of the Social Bond
2015
In the last twenty years the increasing inequalities determined by the capitalist mode of production - together with the related issues of social integration and social cohesion within the capitalist economy - have been mostly ignored by social sciences and sociology. This is due to the dominance of the ideology of globalization and global corporations, imposed by international neoliberal think tanks; the extreme specialization of social sciences may have had some responsibility for this situation. This is even truer in Italy than in other countries, where the transformations of capitalism have received an increased attention for many years now. A globally dominant rhetoric depicted the wel…
Geographies of markets: Materials, morals and monsters in motion
2010
Approaching processes of capitalist market exchange from a cultural economic perspective, we identify three strands of research that are all part of a widespread ‘pragmatic turn’ in the study of economic activities: (1) the conceptualization of markets as heterogeneous arrangements of people, things and sociotechnical devices; (2) the insight that multiple frames of reference are mobilized in everyday market activities in addition to instrumental rationality; and (3) approaches that combine an interest in the performance of diversity and difference in concrete market contexts with an attention to mobility in network capitalism.
Dai beni comuni al comune. Diritto, Stato e storia
2016
This article – which examines the volume by Pierre Dardot and Christian Laval, Commun – intends to work out the meanings, including their historical background, which pertain to a crucial discursive field in today’s political debate: those of the terms common /commons. The goal, following Dardot and Laval multifold proposal, is to understand how to overcome the evident indeterminacy of a word such as commun. The critical analysis of the extremely complex, and frequently fuzzy, genealogies of common /commons is a fundamental step in this intellectual program, indeed a precondition for the elaboration of a convincing conceptual tool. This concept is interpreted, following the perspective outl…
Joseph A. Schumpeter, Capitalism, Socialism, Democracy, New York 1942
2008
