Conventional face masks to prevent SARS-CoV-2 transmission are mostly based on a passive filtration principle. Ideally, anti-COVID-19 masks should protect the carrier not only by size exclusion of virus aerosol particles, but also be able to capture and destroy or inactivate the virus. Here we present the proof-of-concept of a filter mat for such a mask, which actively attracts aerosol droplets and kills the virus. [EN] The hydrolysis of the polycaprolactone (PCL) as a function of the dissolution time in a formic/acetic acid mixture was considered as a method for tailoring the morphology of nanofibrous PCL scaffolds. Hence the aim of this research was to establish a correlation between the dissolution time of the polymer in the acid solvent with the physicochemical properties of the electrospun nanofibrous scaffolds and their further service life behaviour. Bacterial infections on a sutured wound represent a critical problem, and the preparation of suture threads possessing antimicrobial properties is valuable. In this work, poly(caprolactone) (PCL) monofilaments were compounded at the concentration of 1, 2 and 4 % (w/w), respectively, to the antiseptic chlorhexidine diacetate (CHX). The incorporation was carried out in the melt by a single-step methodology, i.e. “online” approach. Pancreatic islet transplantation is a promising advanced therapy that has been used to treat patients suffering from diabetes type 1. Traditionally, pancreatic islets are infused via the portal vein, which is subsequently intended to engraft in the liver. Severe immunosuppressive treatments are necessary, however, to prevent rejection of the transplanted islets. Abstract The increase of consumer demand for higher quality and longer shelf-life in foods, while reducing the use of non-compostable packaging materials, has encouraged research on biopolymers incorporating natural antimicrobial compounds. Cinnamaldehyde (CNMA) and allyl isothiocyanate (AITC) were incorporated into polycaprolactone (PCL) films by solvent casting. International audience; The ring opening polymerization (ROP) of $\varepsilon$-caprolactone (CL) in the presence of $\beta$-cyclodextrin ($\beta$-CD) wasperformed in batch reactors both at room pressure and with the reaction system pressurized with CO$_2$, N$_2$ orAr. Significant enhancements of the polymerization rate was observed when the ROP was carried out withwet $\beta$-CD under pressure. For example, after 24 hours at 120° C with a $\beta$-CD/CL molar ratio of about1/100, the monomer conversion increased from 4 to 98–99% when the pressure was changed from 0.1to 12.5–13.0 MPa independent of the nature of the compressing gas.
