Tomographic left ventricular volume determination in the presence of aneurysm by three-dimensional echocardiographic imaging. I: Asymmetric model hea…
1996
To improve the accuracy of measurements of left ventricular volume in the presence of an aneurysm, we used three-dimensional echocardiographic imaging to analyze the shape of left ventricles in 23 asymmetric model hearts with eccentric aneurysms of different sizes, shapes, and localizations. A standard 3.75 MHz ultrasound probe with a rotation motor device was used to obtain a three-dimensional data set. By rotating the probe stepwise 1 degree, 180 radial ultrasound pictures were digitized. On the basis of the three-dimensional data set, the following parameters were determined and compared with the dimensions of the model hearts obtained by direct measurement: total left ventricular volume…
Cardiac arrhythmia induced by hypothermia in a cardiac model in vitro
2013
The neurological damage after cardiac arrest (CA) constitutes a big challenge of hospital discharge since years. The therapeutic hypothermia therapy (34°C-32°C) has shown its benefit to reduce cerebral oxygen demand and improve neurological outcomes after the cardiac arrest. Despite the fact that induced hypothermia after CA has been shown to increase the hospital survival rate, it can have many adverse effects, among which the cardiac arrhythmia generation represents an important part (up to 34%, according different clinical studies). Compared to studies in vivo, cardiac culture in vitro provides a better spatial resolution at cellular level, which could bring some insights of the mechanis…
Optical immunosensing of effective cardiac biomarkers on acute myocardial infarction
2013
Abstract This review describes: • the advantages of examples of optical methods used in immunosensing of cardiac biomarkers and their reported applications, stressing their potential for future developments; • evaluation of some progress toward viable cardiac-biomarker measurements for detection and diagnostics of myocardial infarction; and, • trends in the development of optical immunosensors, including integrated immunosensors, and the application of nanotechnology and microfluidic technology.

Genetic analyses of the QT interval and its components in over 250K individuals identifies new loci and pathways affecting ventricular depolarization…
2021
AbstractThe QT interval is an electrocardiographic measure representing the sum of ventricular depolarization (QRS duration) and repolarization (JT interval). Abnormalities of the QT interval are associated with potentially fatal ventricular arrhythmia. We conducted genome-wide multi-ancestry analyses in >250,000 individuals and identified 177, 156 and 121 independent loci for QT, JT and QRS, respectively, including a male-specific X-chromosome locus. Using gene-based rare-variant methods, we identified associations with Mendelian disease genes. Enrichments were observed in established pathways for QT and JT, with new genes indicated in insulin-receptor signalling and cardiac energy meta…
