Giant right atrial myxoma: A rare cause of cardiovascular collapse

We report the case of a patient with a giant right atrial myxoma that remained clinically silent until it almost completely obliterated the right atrium, prolapsed into the right ventricle and obstructed the tricuspid valve inflow. This case illustrates the importance of rapid surgical intervention in the setting of acute heart failure caused by tumor masses obliterating heart valves or cardiac chambers.

This study proposes the morphology-based evaluation of the regularity (R) and the synchronization (S) of intra-atrial electrograms acquired during atrial fibrillation (AF). R is defined as the degree of repetitiveness over time of the shapes of the activation waves detected in single atrial recordings. S accounts for the simultaneous presence of morphologically similar activation waves in two atrial electrograms, and for the dispersion of the propagation delays between the two sites. OBJECTIVE To find out whether pulmonary thromboendarterectomy (PTE) can achieve lasting reduction of pulmonary vascular resistance in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension due to chronic thromboembolism. OBJECTIVES To define the use of cineventriculography, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (cMRI), and unenhanced and contrast-enhanced echocardiography for detection of left ventricular (LV) regional wall motion abnormalities (RWMA). Cardiac tumors are rare. Cardiovascular imaging is more important in the differential diagnosis of cardiac masses but no current noninvasive diagnostic tool has the ability to absolutely diagnose cardiac tumors. In effect cardiac biopsy remains the gold standard in the differential diagnosis. In our case we show the advantages of three-dimensional (3D) transesophageal echocardiography as a guide for cardiac biopsy. We believe that 3D TEE is ready to be used in the guide of cardiac mass biopsy. Once interventionalists become confident with 3D imaging, this technique should be used routinely during these procedures.

This paper presents the case of a 36-year-old male with congenitally corrected transposition of great vessels (CTGV). This is a rare cardiac anomaly characterized by atrioventricular and ventriculoarterial discordance, occuriing in less than 1% of all congenital heart diseases. This was diagnosed by echocardiography and MRI. The MRI findings demonstrated cardiac abnormality.
