Diagnosis and treatment of asymptomatic left ventricular systolic dysfunction after myocardial infarction.
2013
The increased survival after acute myocardial infarction induced an increase in heart failure with left ventricular systolic dysfunction. Early detection and treatment of asymptomatic left ventricular systolic dysfunction give the chance to improve outcomes and to reduce costs due to the management of patients with overt heart failure.

P6389Infection and type 2 myocardial infarction: a large observational study from emergency department
2019
Abstract Background Troponin elevation is frequent in patients with acute infection (AI) admitted to emergency unit (EU). Acute infection (AI) has been suggested as a common trigger in type 2 myocardial infarction (T2MI), corresponding to a myocardial oxygen supply-demand mismatch without atherothrombosis. We aim to characterize risk factors of T2MI occurrence and in-hospital mortality among patients admitted to an EU with AI and elevated troponin. Methods Among the medical records of all the patients admitted from January 2014 to December 2016 in a university hospital EU (n=82 543), patients with a diagnosis of AI and elevated troponin Ic (≥0.10μg/L) (n=714) were systematically adjudicated…

Effects of hypolipidemic and hypoglycemic agents on atherogenic small, dense LDL in Type 2 diabetes
2011
Type 2 diabetes is associated with a cluster of inter-related plasma lipid and lipoprotein abnormalities, including reduced HDL-C, a predominance of small, dense LDL and elevated triglycerides. These abnormalities occur even in prediabetes, before blood sugars rise sufficiently in order to confirm a diagnosis of diabetes, and this transition phase incurs important cardiovascular risk. This is the rationale for paying attention to dyslipidemia through the use of the hypolipidemic, rather than hypoglycemic drugs only. A literature search (by Medline and Scopus) was performed. The authors also manually reviewed the references of selected articles for any pertinent material. Beyond the ‘quantit…
Renal resistive index: Beyond the hemodynamics
2020
We read with great interest the original article entitled “Prognostic significance of the renal resistive index in the primary prevention of type II diabetes” by Delsart et al1 In this issue of The Journal, the authors interestingly underlined the prognostic value of renal resistive index (RRI) in diabetic subjects and its role as an independent predictor of a first cardiovascular or renal event. Similar conclusions were previously obtained by others in different subsets of patients (hypertension, chronic kidney disease, or heart failure), in which intrarenal hemodynamic alterations showed to be independent predictors of cardiovascular events. It is likely that the mechanisms underlying ren…
Glycaemic variability using continuous glucose monitoring and endothelial function in the metabolic syndrome and in Type 2 diabetes
2010
Diabet. Med. 27, 872–878 (2010) Abstract Aims Subjects who are at increased risk of developing diabetes may have increased glycaemic variability associated with endothelial dysfunction and possibly subclinical atherosclerosis, which may lead to increased cardiovascular risk observed at the time of diabetes diagnosis. To investigate this hypothesis, we measured endothelial function, carotid intima-media thickness and glycaemic variability using 48-h continuous subcutaneous glucose monitoring in 3 groups of overweight or obese subjects – those without the metabolic syndrome, and those with the metabolic syndrome with or without newly diagnosed Type 2 diabetes. Methods Consecutive subjects, …
Épidémiologie du syndrome coronaire aigu en Europe
2007
Epidemiological data concerning acute coronary syndromes in Europe are based on national registries, studies by the European Society of Cardiology within the framework of the EuroHeart Survey and on the study of European population sub-groups in large international cohorts. In this article, recently published studies will be reviewed, and the principal developments in different countries as well as the characteristics and particularities of the most recent epidemiological data will be highlighted. In Europe, the presentation of acute coronary syndromes (ACS) has evolved considerably over the last ten years. This evolution is characterized by a reduction in the proportion of acute coronary s…
