To evaluate the relationship among supraventricular and ventricular arrhythmias with blood pressure and heart rate (HR) values, we studied 2 groups of 20 hypertensive men with (group I) and without (group II) left ventricular hypertrophy. Ambulatory electrocardiographic tracings were recorded continuously, together with ambulatory arterial pressure. Systolic (SBP) and diastolic (DBP) blood pressure values measured over 24 h showed no difference between the two groups, but we found greater variability in SBP in group I. Cardiac involvement in 32 acromegalics was related to endocrine parameters, clinical score and duration of the disease as well as compared to that of 50 controls free of cardiac disease. Stress ECG, 24h Holter monitoring and echocardiography revealed that supraventricular premature complexes did not occur more often in acromegalics than in controls, both prevalence and severity of ventricular arrhythmia, however, were higher in patients compared to controls: 15/32 (48%) acromegalics had complex ventricular arrhythmia as compared with 6/50 (12%) normal subjects (p less than 0.01). Certain physiopathological features that differentiate essential arterial hypertension in normal weight and obese patients are recalled. The relationship between intracellular energy parameters and myocardial O2 consumption (VO2) was studied in control and volume-overloaded hearts perfused with different lipid substrates and over a range of left ventricular work loads. In control hearts, a unique linear relationship between log of cytosolic [ATP]/[ADPf].[Pi] (where [ADPf] is concentration of free ADP) and myocardial VO2 was observed between low and high work loads for both fatty acids studied. The effect of physical training on the chemical properties of the heart tissues was studied in male mice of NMRI-strain. The mice to be trained and their controls were about 2 weeks old at the beginning of the training, which took place on 5 degrees inclined treadmill 5 days a week for 3-22 weeks. The duration of daily exercise was progressively increased over the first 3 weeks. Summary miR-133a and miR-1 are known as muscle-specific microRNAs that are involved in cardiac development and pathophysiology.
