The Role of Acetyl-Carnitine and Rehabilitation in the Management of Patients with Post-COVID Syndrome: Case-Control Study

2022

Post-COVID syndrome is characterized by the persistence of nonspecific disabling symptoms, even several months after the resolution of the infection, with clinical characteristics similar to fibromyalgia (FM) and a prevalence of 31%. We evaluated the effectiveness of physical exercise, in association with L-acetyl-carnitine (ALC) therapy, in patients with Post-COVID syndrome, on musculoskeletal pain, dyspnea, functional capacity, quality of life, and depression. We conducted an observational case-control study on patients with Post-COVID syndrome. The patients were randomly divided into two groups: a treatment group that received rehabilitation treatment in combination with ALC 500 mg thera…

Art, cuisine et dépendances mutuelles

2014

Phytochemical Investigation of the Labiate Dorystoechas hastata

1988

Abstract Carnosol (11,12-dihydroxyabieta-8,11,13-trien-20-oic acid 20,7-lactone), and rosmanol (7α, 11, 12-trihydroxy-abieta-8, 11, 13-trien-20 oic acid-20, 6-lactone), two abietane diterpenes previously isolated from Rosmarinus officinalis, have been isolated from leaves of Dorystoechas hastata. Luteolin, luteolin-7-glucoside, 6-methoxyluteolin-7-glucoside, caffeic acid and chlorogenic acid have also obtained from the same source. The co-occurrence of carnosol, rosmanol and 6-methoxyluteolin-7-glucoside support the close relationship of these two genera.

l ‐carnitine: Structure and Function

2011

l-carnitine is found in nearly all living cells. l-carnitine present in human body can be either provided by a biosynthetic pathway or by food. Carnitine plays a major role in lipid and energy metabolism. In the human body, the primary role of l-carnitine is to shuttle long-chain fatty acids into the mitochondria where they are used to produce energy. l-carnitine is also involved in the peroxisomal oxidative metabolism and serves as a cofactor for various enzymatic reactions. Several reports suggest that l-carnitine may act as an anti-oxidant agent and limit the deleterious effects of free radicals. Many studies have estimated the role and the potential effectiveness of l-carnitine in vario…

The Naturist Constellation in Europe

2013

The present study introduces some reflections on possible approaches to the phenomenon of naturism. Our investigation starts from the main consideration that this phenomenon is now transiting from its subcultural and countercultural origin—that depended on the history of Western countries—to a new stage of consumption and legalization.

Le rappresentazioni dell'alterità nelle cerimonie carnevalesche. Forme e funzioni

2012

Potential Roles of Peroxisomes in Alzheimer's Disease and in Dementia of the Alzheimer's Type

2012

In Alzheimer's disease (AD) and dementia of the Alzheimer's type (DAT), the role played by peroxisomes is not well known. Peroxisomes are present in all eukaryotic cells, with the exception of erythrocytes. They are involved in the β-oxidation process of long-chain fatty acids, very-long-chain fatty acids, and branched-chain fatty acids. They participate in the α-oxidation of phytanic acid, the biosynthesis of bile acids, and the breakdown of eicosanoids. Peroxisomes are also involved in the synthesis of specific fatty acids such as docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), which is essential for the brain and retina, and plasmalogens (PLGN), which play crucial roles in neural cells and are essential com…
