Klebsiella oxitoca folliculitis mimicking tinea barbae in a diabetic man

2005

A 55-year-old male dairy farmer was admitted to our hospital with a skin infection on the neck and face. He was apparently in good general health, and his medical history was unremarkable. He reported that, 50 days before admission, a pruritic red maculopapular rash had developed on the anterior region of his neck. This rash failed to improve after a 10-day course of trimethoprim-sufamethoxazole and fluconazole; rather it progressively worsened. On admission, examination revealed confluent follicular papulae-pustules with purulent-hematic exudation and crusting, on an erythematous-edematous area extending over the anterior region of the neck, chin and mandible (Fig. 1); hairs within the aff…

The Current and Future Role of Carsharing in Palermo: Analysis of Collected Data and Results of a Customer Satisfaction Survey

2018

In recent years many cities, both in Italy and abroad, have adopted Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans, in which one of the key action is the developing of the sharing mobility. The aim of the paper is to define the role that carsharing plays in Palermo today and it will play in the future, thanks to the adoption of new strategies, such as the introduction of the free-floating system, and transport demand orientation policies, such as the increase in the parking fees for private cars or the expansion of the ZTL. The average user profile of carsharing in Palermo has been identified through a customer satisfaction survey and the potential demand of carsharing in Palermo has been studied using G…

Vascular Grafts and Flow-through Flaps for Microsurgical Lower Extremity Reconstruction

2017

Background The use of vascular grafts is indicated in case of insufficient pedicle length or for complex defects involving both soft tissues and vessels. Venous grafts (for both venous and arterial reconstructions) and arterial grafts (arterial reconstruction) can be used. This study retrospectively evaluated the needs for vascular reconstruction and its results in a clinical series of lower limb reconstructions with microsurgical free flaps. Materials and Methods From 2010 to 2015, a total of 16 vascular grafts or flow-through flaps were used in 12 patients out of a total of 150 patients undergoing microsurgical reconstruction (8%). Arterial reconstruction was performed in seven cases (si…

Methods for the Improvement of Acne Scars Used in Dermatology and Cosmetology: A Review

2022

Acne vulgaris is a chronic skin disease that, depending on its course, is characterized by the occurrence of various skin eruptions such as open and closed comedones, pustules, papules, and cysts. Incorrectly selected treatment or the presence of severe acne vulgaris can lead to the formation of atrophic scars. In this review, we summarize current knowledge on acne scars and methods for their improvement. There are three types of atrophic scars: icepick, rolling, and boxcar. They are of different depths and widths and have different cross-sections. Scars can combine to form clusters. If acne scars are located on the face, they can reduce the patient’s quality of life, leading to isolation a…

CARS methane spectra: Experiments and simulations for temperature diagnostic purposes

2007

International audience; CARS laboratory experiments were done in the 2905-2925 cm(-1) range, in the vicinity of the v, band of the methane molecule, for pressures ranging from I to 50 bar, and temperatures up to 1100 K. These experiments were carried out in order to retrieve the pressure evolution of the CH4 spectrum, as well as to confirm its temperature dependance. After a brief recall on the theory used to compute pressure broadening coefficients and relaxation rates, we consider the v(3) and v(4) infrared bands of methane for benchmark calculations purposes. Next, we present recent experimental CARS spectra and calculated ones. Lastly, we discuss flame experiments as well as comparisons…
