Endodontic re-treatment and restorative treatment of a dens invaginatus type II through new technologies

2019

Background The complex anatomy of dens invaginatus makes access cavity to root canal system difficult, which has an impact on the prognosis of these teeth. A novel technique, based on new technologies, is proposed to make access cavity conservative and guided with minimal dental structure lost. Material and Methods This case report shows the root canal retreatment and the endodontic surgery of a dens invaginatus type II in a left lateral upper incisor previously treated which was affected by a chronic apical abscess and an apical fracture. A Cone Beam Computed Tomography was performed to better diagnosis the dental anatomy. An intraoral scan was performed to get a digital 3D model. A comput…

Role of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) in diagnosis and treatment planning of two-rooted maxillary lateral incisor with palatogingival groove. …

2020

Background: The embryonic root groove is an anatomical abnormality that starts in the cingulum and extends longitudinally down the long axis root towards the apex. This developmental anomaly is more frequently reported in maxillary lateral incisors. Gu YC in 2011 established three types of radicular grooves depending on its severity. According to this classification, type III presents a greater diagnostic and therapeutic complexity. The prevalence of palatogingival grooves in maxillary lateral incisors ranges from 1.9 to 14%. This case report provides valuable information about the diagnosis and treatment plan of palatogingival grooves with Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scan. Case re…

Intrarenal venous flow in cardiorenal syndrome: a shining light into the darkness

2018

Abstract The aim of this case report is to assess the potential role of intrarenal Doppler ultrasonography as a non‐invasive method to evaluate intrarenal venous flow (IRVF) in acute heart failure (AHF) and concomitant renal dysfunction. We report a case of an 81‐year‐old woman with valvular heart disease (previous mitral valve replacement) that presented with acutely decompensated heart failure and concomitant worsening renal function (WRF). In addition to complete physical examination, laboratory analysis, and echocardiography, IRVF was assessed at baseline and 48 h after the administration of diuretic treatment. At admission, physical examination and echocardiography revealed signs of in…

Dystrophic calcification vs sialolithiasis in a pediactric parotid gland: A case report

2019

Calcinosis is a connective tissue disorder characterized by ectopic calcification in soft tissues. It is subdivided into: dystrophic, metastatic, idiopathic and iatrogenic calcification. The formation of mineralized material in the salivary glands is a common finding in the daily practice of dentists and other specialists. In most cases, this calcification is a sialolith. However, a type of ectopic calcification termed dystrophic calcification is characterized by inappropriate biomineralization in soft tissues and may be associated with trauma, chronic and localized infection or inflammatory diseases. We report a case of a 9-year-old female patient who complained of small nodules in the lef…

Implant-supported fixed prostheses in a Patient with Osteogenesis Imperfecta : a 4-year follow-up

2017

Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) is a rare autosomal dominant connective tissue disorder in wich, the bone quality and density is affected. OI includes some metabolic disorders and have a wide range of clinical presentations. In Osteogenesis Imperfecta bone has a very low density and it is a disorder currently treated with bisphosphonates. Quality and quantity of bone is important for establishment of osseointegration in dental implants. There are few reported cases in the literature. This is a case report of a 61 year-old man with grade IV OI, rehabilitated with implant-supported fixed prostheses in the posterior right and left mandible, whithout bone grafts. At the 4-year follow-up, clinical …

Socio-Cultural Power Dynamics and Coping Functions: A Narrative Case Report of a Female Paralympian

2012

Purpose: This case study explores the lived experiences of an elite female Paralympic powerlifting athlete. The focus is on restrictions and coping responses employed to manage the daily hassles within the cultural and ethnic requirements for achieving athletic excellence. Methods: With an unstructured interview, the narrative was acquired which ranged to a total of 75 minutes (approx) and 20 single spaced pages. The data was analyzed using Foucauldian discourse analysis in conjuncture to feminist poststructuralist theory. Results: The results highlight the issues relating to femininity, culture and ethnicity with regard to athletic career. The analysis elicits extracts from the narrative t…

Response by Meneveau and Ecarnot to Letter Regarding Article, “Optical Coherence Tomography to Optimize Results of Percutaneous Coronary Intervention…

2017

We read with interest the letters by Vallurupalli and Uretsky and also Dr Nadir relating to the results of the DOCTORS study (Does Optical Coherence Tomography Optimize Results of Stenting).1 We thank the authors for their insightful remarks. Vallurupalli and Uretsky raise an interesting point when they underline that a prolonged inflation time is superior to a rapid inflation/deflation technique in terms of both stent expansion and apposition. We acknowledge that we did not take stent inflation time into account in the case report form of the DOCTORS study. The arguments put forward by Vallurupalli and Uretsky suggest that this variable should be systematically recorded and reported. Howev…

Oral manifestations as the first presenting sign of Crohn?s disease in a pediatric patient

2017

Crohn’s disease (CD) is a chronic inflammatory disorder affecting the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Although the GI tract is the primary site of involvement, many patients, particularly in pediatric cases, first present with non-intestinal manifestations, including oral lesions. Oral manifestations of CD in children occur in around 50-80% of cases, and about 30% of CD cases in children occur first in the mouth. Recognizing such oral lesions in the pediatric population, and requesting a biopsy, may expedite the diagnosis of CD. We describe a 15 year old male who presented with oral findings of multiple aphthous ulcers and plaques of pink papules of the buccal vestibule. We highlight the initi…

Crystalline subtype of pre-descemetic corneal dystrophy.

2014

Purpose: To report corneal findings in a familial case of the crystalline subtype of pre- Descemetic corneal dystrophy. Case Report: A 19-year-old girl and her 44-year-old mother were found to have asymptomatic, bilateral, punctiform and multi-colored crystalline opacities across the whole posterior layer of the corneas. Endothelial specular microscopy revealed the presence of white round flecks located at different levels anterior to the endothelium. No systemic abnormalities or medications could be related to account for these findings. Conclusion: To the best of our knowledge, this is the third familial report of this rare corneal disorder. Differential diagnosis may include Schnyder cor…

Particulated wisdom teeth as an autologous bone substitute for grafting/filling material in bone defects : case Report

2020

Introduction Bone augmentation material using permanent teeth are confirmed in many articles to provide good histological and clinical results. Advances in osteoconduction and osteoinduction, low cost of material, no risk of disease transmission and elimination of foreign body reaction are important aspects not only to the clinician but to patient as well. Many techniques and devices to obtain graft material for bone augmentation out of teeth are found in the literature. Material and Methods The wisdom teeth crush technique developed in our office and described in this case report is simple and no specific devices for teeth grinding were used. The graft material was obtained from impacted i…
