Orthodontic treatment of patient with maxillofacial fibrous dysplasia : a case report

2019

Fibrous dysplasia is a benign skeletal disorder in which the normal bone and marrow are replaced by fibrous tissue and haphazardly distributed woven bone. The aim of this case report is to discuss the orthodontic treatment of a 13-year-old patient with fibrous dysplasia in the left maxilla. The patient had rotated maxillary second premolars, moderate crowding in both maxillary and mandibular arches with low maxillary frenal attachment. Orthodontic treatment was done with full fixed appliance and extraction of maxillary and mandibular third molars. Maxillary frenectomy and free gingival graft in mandibular anterior region were performed by a periodontist. The oral and maxillofacial surgery t…

Extra short 4mm implants used to rehabilitation of atrophic posterior mandible. A serial case reports

2020

Rehabilitation of patients through implants in areas with severe bone resorption in the posterior mandible is a challenge in implant dentistry. In this context, extra short implants configure a treatment option for this type of patient, as they can avoid increased financial cost, treatment time and patient morbidity. The present study evaluated the marginal bone stability in individualized extra-short implants for masticatory function in the posterior mandible. Using digitized periapical radiographs of 13 extra-short implants performed on 7 patients. The mesial and distal regions of each implant were selected, from the bone crest to the region parallel to the apex, and the bone stability of…

Ceramic veneers on central incisors without finish line using bopt in a case with gingival asymmetry

2019

Objectives This clinical case report describes the rehabilitation of central incisors with veneers in a patient with gingival asymmetry. The teeth were prepared without finish line, applying BOPT concepts to correct asymmetry, and obtained a harmoniously integrated restoration with optimal periodontal health. Clinical implications Biologically oriented preparation technique (vertical or “feather edge” preparation) was used to obtain gingival symmetry. Teeth were prepared without horizontal finish line to achieve correct emergence, soft tissue adaptation and stabilization, while maintaining biological space, both at the provisional restoration stage and later when definitive restorations wer…

Orthodontics and veneers to restore the anterior guidance. A minimally invasive approach

2017

Tooth wear is defined as the progressive loss of a tooth's surface due to actions other than those which cause tooth decay or dental trauma. It is a pathological condition with an increasing prevalence among young people. The aim of this article is to describe an alternative treatment modality to rehabilitate the anterior guidance by a minimally invasive interdisciplinary ortho-restorative treatment. Two patients came to the dental clinic for restorative treatment in order to rehabilitate the worn anterior dentition. Clinical analysis showed tooth surface loss located at the incisal edges by attrition due to an inadequate anterior guidance. In both cases the occlusal vertical dimension was …

Full mouth functional and aesthetic rehabilitation of a patient affected with hypoplastic type of amelogenesis imperfecta

2020

The management of Amelogenesis imperfecta often poses a challenge for the dentists. It not only includes aesthetic and functional rehabilitation of the patient, but also requires a positive rapport building with the patient due to psychosocial issues. The treatment plan is driven by patient demands, age, cost-affordability, severity of the disease and the presenting condition. The present case report elucidates step by step management of a 20 year-old female who presented with generalized hypersensitivity, intermittent pain associated with multiple decayed posterior teeth, poor dental aesthetics and anterior deep bite. The management consisted of endodontic treatments in all teeth, crown le…

Peek polymer in orthodontics : a pilot study on children

2017

The purpose of the study has been making the orthodontic space maintainers in PEEK polymer (Polyetheretherketone) through a digital workflow. New digital technologies are taking hold in diagnosis, therapy and in dental laboratories. The digital world can help dentist in diagnosis and therapy: -diagnosis through the acquisition of radiographic images (CBCT) or scanners which allow the creation of 3D digital models - about therapy thanks to dental CAD CAM system. It consists of design devices through an dedicated software CAD and then realize devices through CAM system. We used digital system to improve the quality of the treatment and reduce costs. Delayed expansion of atrophic mandible (deam): a case report

2017

Purpose. The present case report presents the clinical results of delayed expansion of mandibles by ultrasonic surgery in case of mono edentulous. Materials and methods. The patients with a residual alveolar ridge thickness between 2,3 and 4,1 mm in the coronal area of posterior mandible was threated. In the first stage, four linear corticotomies were carried out by ultrasonic surgical device; bone expansion was not performed. After 4 weeks, in the second stage, adequate bone expansion, without compromising cortical vascularisation, by utilising a combination of scalpel, thin chisels and threaded osteotomes was achieved and one implant was placement, after filling the gaps with a cortico bo…

The TORONTO PROSTHESIS, an appealing method for restoring patients candidates for hybrid overdentures: A case report

2012

The implant is a therapeutic resource in constant evolution, and the different types of implants and techniques have been increasingly used in cases of both fully or partially edentulous patients. In some cases they provide more conservative treatment, and in others better stability, retention, and function. To achieve a satisfactory result, there are several factors that should be taken into account: the type and quality of the bone, bone density, the placement location of implants, retrievability of restorations, the patient’s motivation, and economic issues. Trainees should be aware of the limitations of the techniques that can be used for successful prosthetic rehabilitation. This work …

Implant-supported overdenture manufactured using CAD/CAM techniques to achieve horizontal path insertion between the primary and secondary structure:…

2015

This report describes the case of an edentulous patient with an atrophic maxilla and severe class III malocclusion. Prosthetic rehabilitation was performed using CAD/CAM techniques for manufacturing an implant-supported overdenture with horizontal insertion. A vestibulo-lingual insertion overdenture is a precision prosthesis with a fixation system affording a good fit between the primary and secondary structure. Both structures exhibit passive horizontal adjustment. This treatment option requires the same number of implants as implant-supported fixed dentures. The horizontal assembly system prevents the prosthesis from loosening or moving in response to axial and non-axial forces. The techn…

Lip repositioning technique. A simple surgical procedure to improve the smile harmony

2018

Excessive gingival display is an esthetic concern for patients. It is a condition in which an overexposure of the maxillary gingiva (>3mm) is present during smiling. There are different etiologies of a gummy smile, such as vertical maxillary excess, short and hyperactive upper lip, altered passive eruption, anterior dentoalveolar extrusion, or a combination of these causes. The correct diagnosis of all etiologic factors is imperative for its appropriate management. Many techniques have been used to restore the dentogingival relation for the management of gummy smile. Lip repositioning is a conservative surgical technique used to treat excess gingival display. It is a largely unknown treatme…
