Bleeding Follicular Conjunctivitis due to Influenza H1N1 Virus

2010

Influenza H1N1 or A virus is a new virus serotype capable of human-to-human transmission. This infection causes a flu syndrome similar to that of seasonal influenza, with only one case of conjunctivitis described and no clinical details or microbiological confirmation. Its diagnosis is performed by PCR of pharyngeal smear of the patients affected. We report the first well-documented case in the medical literature of conjunctivitis by H1N1 virus.

The impact of deep dysgraphia on graphemic output buffer disorders

2004

This article describes an investigation into the residual writing skills of a severely dysgraphic patient (DA). We found that they were powerfully influenced by a number of lexical variables (lexicality, frequency, imageability, length and geminates). His error pattern was characterized by semantic, lexical, substitution, deletion errors and fragment responses that preserved the first letter. Thus, DA's written spelling was characterized by both deep dysgraphic and graphemic output buffer effects. It is proposed that this pattern of performance represents a new "putative functional syndrome."

A Fatal Bloodstream Infection byStaphylococcus pettenkoferiin an Intensive Care Unit Patient

2011

Coagulase negative staphylococci are increasingly recognized as leading pathogens in bacteremia, with incidence peaking in intensive care units. Interpretation of blood cultures that are positive for CoNS is often doubtful. We describe a fatal case of bacteremia by a newly recognized species of CoNS,Staphylococcus pettenkoferi, in an ICU patient.

Choroidal metastasis from lung adenocarcinoma: a rare case report.

2019

The choroid is the most common site for intraocular metastatic di sease. Orbital metastasis as metastatic site of lung adenocarcinoma is very rare and in literature a very exiguous number of cases is present. This is a case report of a woman with history of lung adenocarcinoma and, after surgery, detection of a choroidal mass described as lung metastasis, responding to Gefinitib therapy. However a biopsy was not performed. After two years there was a great dimension decrement of the lung metastasis but she is still suffering from recurrent pleural effusion, with pleural thickenings biopsied and diagnosed as recurrences of disease.

Osteonecrosis of the jaw related to everolimus and bisphosphonate: a unique case report?

2013

Osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ) is a rare but serious lesion of the jaw, characterized mainly by exposed necrotic bone;it is related to various drugs, usually used for treating patients with advanced malignancies. Drugs implicated in ONJ are: nitrogen-containing bisphosphonates (NBPs), denosumab, anti-angiogenic drugs (e.g bevacizumab, sunitinib, sorafenib) and the selective mammalian target of rapamycin mTOR, everolimus. Previous data regarding the combining of NBPs with antiangiogenic agents conflict with some reports (indicating a similar risk of ONJ compared with the use of NBPs alone1); other reports show significantly higher rates (18% vs 1% with NBPs alone) of the incidence of ONJ2. Melanotic Oncocytic Metaplasia of the Nasopharynx: An Unusual Case Report

2021

Introduction: Melanotic oncocytic metaplasia of the nasopharynx is an uncommon disease, usually asymptomatic, that could be misdiagnosed for melanoma, because of its macroscopic features. For this reason, is necessary to know it thoroughly and to take it into account in the differential diagnosis.   Case Report: A 69-year-old Italian woman presented to our Otorhinolaryngology Clinic with a 1-month history of sore throat. She has been a smoker for several years. During the nasopharyngoscopic examination, grey-brown, irregular and slightly elevated lesions, measuring few millimetres, were found near the right Eustachian tube opening. The preliminary diagnostic hypothesis was malignant disease…
