Diagnostic electrophysiological study in a highly trained young woman with presyncopal symptoms during exercise: a case report

2021

Right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) ventricular tachycardia (VT) is frequent and occurs in patients without structural heart disease, especially in highly trained athletes. Most of the studies on cardiac adaptations to exercise have been investigated in male athletes. Women, however, are increasingly participating in sports and electrical and structural adaptations in male and female athletes differ significantly. These cardiac adaptations dissimilarities between males and females have potential implications in diagnosing certain types of arrhythmias. We present here a case of a 35-year-old highly-trained woman endurance athlete that attended the clinic complaining about chest pain and d…

Relationship between adipic acid concentration and the core symptoms of autism spectrum disorders.

2016

Dicarboxylic acids are an important source of information about metabolism and potential physiopathological alterations in children with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs). We measured the concentration between dicarboxylic adipic and suberic acids in children with an ASD and typically-developing (TD) children and analyzed any relationships between the severity of the core symptoms of ASDs and other clinical features (drugs, supplements, drugs, or diet). The core symptoms of autism were evaluated using the DSM-IV criteria, and adipic acid and suberic acid were measured in urine samples. Overall, no increase in the concentration of adipic acid in children with ASDs compared to TD children, how…

Modulation of Intracellular O-2 Concentration in Escherichia coli Strains Using Oxygen Consuming Devices

2018

International audience; The use of cell factories for the production of bulk and value-added compounds is nowadays an advantageous alternative to the traditional petrochemical methods. Nevertheless, the efficiency and productivity of several of these processes can improve with the implementation of micro-oxic or anoxic conditions. In the industrial setting, laccases are appealing catalysts that can oxidize a wide range of substrates and reduce O-2 to H2O. In this work, several laccase-based devices were designed and constructed to modulate the intracellular oxygen concentration in bacterial chassis. These oxygen consuming devices (OCDs) included Escherichia coil's native laccase (CueO) and …

Evaluation of DNA Methylation Episignatures for Diagnosis and Phenotype Correlations in 42 Mendelian Neurodevelopmental Disorders

2020

Contains fulltext : 218274.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Closed access) Genetic syndromes frequently present with overlapping clinical features and inconclusive or ambiguous genetic findings which can confound accurate diagnosis and clinical management. An expanding number of genetic syndromes have been shown to have unique genomic DNA methylation patterns (called "episignatures"). Peripheral blood episignatures can be used for diagnostic testing as well as for the interpretation of ambiguous genetic test results. We present here an approach to episignature mapping in 42 genetic syndromes, which has allowed the identification of 34 robust disease-specific episignatures. We examine emerging pa…

A decision analysis for periapical surgery : retrospective study

2018

Background Periapical surgery is now a reliable therapeutic procedure for the treatment of teeth with periapical lesions, particularly when orthograde retreatment is problematic. However, little information is available regarding treatment planning of cases referred for periapical surgery. Therefore, this study was conducted to analyze and evaluate the factors that affect the decision-making process for periapical surgery. Material and Methods This study retrospectively assessed clinical and radiographic data from patients undergoing periapical surgery. The factors involved in deciding to perform periapical surgery were classified into technical, biological, and combined factors. Results Ou…

Effects of ewes grazing sulla or ryegrass pasture for different daily durations on forage intake, milk production and fatty acid composition of cheese

2016

Sulla (Sulla coronarium L.) forage is valued for its positive impact on ruminant production, in part due to its moderate content of condensed tannin (CT). The duration of daily grazing is a factor affecting the feed intake and milk production of ewes. In this study, the effects of grazing sulla pasture compared with annual ryegrass, and the extension of grazing from 8 to 22 h/day, were evaluated with regard to ewe forage intake and milk production, as well as the physicochemical properties and fatty acid (FA) composition of cheese. During 42 days in the spring, 28 ewes of the Comisana breed were divided into four groups (S8, S22, R8 and R22) that grazed sulla (S) or ryegrass (R) for 8 (0800…

The application of casein phosphopeptide and amorphous calcium phosphate with fluoride (CPP-ACPF) for restoring mineral loss after dental bleaching w…

2018

Abstract Objective To conduct an in vitro evaluation of the effect of casein-phosphopeptide and amorphous calcium phosphate with fluoride [CPP-ACPF] upon the calcium [Ca] and phosphorus [P] composition and morphology of dental enamel and dentin after the application of two bleaching agents: 37.5% hydrogen peroxide [HP]) and 35% carbamide peroxide [CP]. Materials and methods The crowns of 40 extracted human teeth were divided into four groups (n = 10 each). The crowns were sectioned along the cervical-incisal axis, and each half was embedded in acrylic resin, leaving a window 3 mm in diameter to explore the enamel or dentin (according to the study group involved). Groups 1a and 1b correspond…

Plasma polyunsaturated fatty acids are directly associated with cognition in overweight children but not in normal weight children

2016

Aim Polyunsaturated fatty acids are essential nutrients for the normal development of the brain. We investigated the associations between plasma polyunsaturated fatty acids and cognition in normal weight and overweight children. Methods The study recruited 386 normal weight children and 58 overweight children aged six to eight years and blood samples were drawn after a 12-hour fast. We assessed plasma polyunsaturated fatty acids using gas chromatography, cognition using Raven's Coloured Progressive Matrices, and overweight and obesity using the age-specific and sex-specific cut-offs from the International Obesity Task Force. The data were analysed by linear regression analyses adjusted for …

Gastroblastoma in Adulthood—A Rarity among Rare Cancers—A Case Report and Review of the Literature

2019

Gastroblastoma (GB) is a rare gastric epithelial-mesenchymal neoplasm, first described by Miettinen et al. So far, all reported cases described the tumor in children or young adults, and similarities with other childhood blastomas have been postulated. We report a case of GB in a 43-year-old patient with long follow up and no recurrence up to 100 months after surgery. So far, this is the second case of GB occurring in the adult age >40-year-old. Hence, GB should be considered in the differential diagnosis of microscopically comparable conditions in adults carrying a worse prognosis and different clinical approach.
