Fatty Acid Carboxylate- and Anionic Surfactant-Controlled Delivery Systems That Use Mesoporous Silica Supports
2010
We report the preparation of a MCM-41 mesoporous material that contains the dye [Ru(bipy) 3 ]Cl 2 (bipy= bipyridine) inside the mesopores and functionalised with suitable binding groups at the entrance of the pores. Solids S1―S3 were obtained by the reaction of the mesoporous material with N-methyl-N'-propyltrimethoxysilylimidazolium chloride, N-phenyl-N'-[3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl]thiourea, or N-phenyl-N'-[3-(trimethoxysilyl)propy1]urea, respectively. A study of the dye delivery of these systems in buffered water (pH 7.0, 2-[4-(2-hydroxyethyl)piperazin-1-yl]ethanesulfonic acid (HEPES), 10 ―3 mol dm ―3 ) in the presence of a family of carboxylate ions was carried out. In the interaction of …
Formation, structure and reactivity of boryloxycarbyne complexes of group 6 metals.
2003
Reaction of the diborane(4) B(2)(NMe(2))(2)I(2) with two equivalents of K[(eta(5)-C(5)H(5))M(CO)(3)] (M=Cr, Mo, W) yielded the dinuclear boryloxycarbyne complexes [[(eta(5)-C(5)H(5))(OC)(2)M(triple bond)CO](2)B(2)(NMe(2))(2)] (4 a, M=Mo; b, M=W; c, M=Cr), which were fully characterised in solution by multinuclear NMR methods. The Mo and W complexes 4 a, b proved to be kinetically favoured products of this reaction and underwent quantitative rearrangement in solution to afford the complexes [[(eta(5)-C(5)H(5))(OC)(2)M(triple bond)CO]B(NMe(2))B(NMe(2))[M(CO)(3)(eta(5)-C(5)H(5))]] (5 a, M=Mo; b, M=W); 5 a was characterised by X-ray crystallography in the solid state. Corresponding reactions of…
Synthesis and Characterisation of a New Series of Bistable Iron(II) Spin-Crossover 2D Metal-Organic Frameworks
2009
Twelve coordination polymers with formula {Fe(3-Xpy)(2)[M(II)(CN)(4)]} (M(II): Ni, Pd, Pt; X: F, Cl, Br, I; py: pyridine) have been synthesised, and their crystal structures have been determined by single-crystal or powder X-ray analysis. All of the fluoro and iodo compounds, as well as the chloro derivative in which M(II) is Pt, crystallise in the monoclinic C2/m space group, whereas the rest of the chloro and all of the bromo derivatives crystallise in the orthorhombic Pnc2 space group. In all cases, the iron(II) atom resides in a pseudo-octahedral [FeN(6)] coordination core, with similar bond lengths and angles in the various derivatives. The major difference between the two kinds of str…

Syntheses, Structure, and Reactivity of Chiral Titanium Compounds: Procatalysts for Olefin Polymerization
2001
Titanium complexes with chelating alkoxo ligands have been synthesised with the aim to investigate titanium active centres in catalytic ethylene polymerisation. The titanium complexes cis-[TiCl2(η2-maltolato)2] (1, 89 %), and cis-[TiCl2(η2-guaiacolato)2] (2, 80 %) were prepared by direct reaction of TiCl4 with maltol and guaiacol in toluene. The addition of maltol to [Ti(OiPr)4] in THF results in the formation of species [Ti(OiPr)2(maltolato)2] (3, 82 %). The titanium compound cis-[Ti(OEt)2(η2-maltolato)2] (4, 74 %) was obtained by the transesterification reaction of species 3 with CH3CO2Et. When compound 4 is dissolved in THF a dinuclear species [Ti2(μ-OEt)2(OEt)4(η2-maltolato)2] (5, 45 %)…
Stamping of monomeric SAMs as a route to structured crystallization templates: patterned titania films.
2000
Gold-coated glass slides have be patterned by using self-assembled monolayers (SAM) of alkane thiols. Through the use of a special thiol terminated with a styrene monomer, microstructures of 5 to 10 microm width and 70 A height have been formed on the surface by graft polymerization of styrene. These patterned gold slides have then been used to template the precipitation of thin titania films from ethanolic solutions of titanium isopropoxide to create microstructured architectures in the film. Plasmon resonance spectra have established the presence of different steps in the process and have been used to follow the kinetics of the precipitation of titania on the surface. The structured TiO2 …

Efficient synthesis of copillar[5]arenes and their host–guest properties with dibromoalkanes
2011
An efficient method for the synthesis of copillar[5]arenes was developed with FeCl(3) as catalyst and different 1,4-dialkoxybenzenes and paraformaldehyde as reactants (yields: 50-85%). The host-guest property of (co)pillar[5]arenes and terminal dibromoalkanes was investigated by (1)H NMR measurements and an X-ray study. The complexation behavior of the copillar[5]arenes can be tuned by changing the substituents on the host. A complete complexation selectivity was found between pillar[5]- and pillar[6]arenes, which is an interesting aspect for sensor techniques.
