“It’s More Than Just Exercise”: Tailored Exercise at a Community-Based Activity Center as a Liminal Space along the Road to Mental Health Recovery an…

2021

Mental health care policies call for health-promoting and recovery-oriented interventions, as well as community-based programs supporting healthier habits. The purpose of this study was to explore how individuals facing mental health challenges experienced participating in tailored exercise at a community-based activity center, and what role tailored exercise could play in supporting an individual’s process of recovery. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with nine adults experiencing poor mental health who engaged in exercise at the activity center. Interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed verbatim and analyzed using systematic text condensation. Participants spoke about the…

The Equationally-Defined Commutator in Quasivarieties Generated by Two-Element Algebras

2018

The notion of the equationally-defined commutator was introduced and thoroughly investigated in (Czelakowski, 2015). In this work the properties of the equationally-defined commutator in quasivarieties generated by two-element algebras are examined. It is proved: If a quasivariety Q is generated by a finite set of two-element algebras, then the equationally-defined commutator of Q is additive (Theorem 3.1) Moreover it satisfies the associativity law (Theorem 3.6). The second result is strengthened if the quasivariety is generated by a single two-element algebra 2: If Q = SP(2), then the equationally-defined commutator of Q universally validates one of the following laws: [x,y] = x^y or [x,y…

Competition and product survival in the UK car market

2005

The paper examines the extent to which inter- and intra-firm competition influenced the survival of cars in the UK market between 1971 and 1998. It is shown that, while competition influenced product survival in all market segments within the UK car market, the nature of that competition differed between them. In the small family and large family car segments, intra-firm competition dominated inter-firm competition. In contrast, in the luxury/sports car segment only inter-firm competition conditions resulted in product survival. Evidence was also found that the luxury/sports car segment has grown more competitive over time and that firms marketing products in the family car segments have be…

Upward and Downward Limit Pricing: The Role of Post-Entry Competition

2005

Under asymmetric information, entry-deterring strategies by an incumbent monopolist can consist of deviations from its static monopoly price through downward deviations termed downward limit pricing, or upward deviations termed upward limit pricing. Our analysis shows that the mode of post-entry competition influences the range of situations in which an incumbent adopts a strategy of downward limit pricing instead of an upward one: this range is greater under price than under output competition; it is decreasing in the degree of product differentiation; and with homogeneous product only downward limit pricing emerges under price competition, while upward limit pricing can still take place w…

New Evidence of the Tax Effect on SME Optimum Debt Maturity Structure

2009

This paper analyzes the influence the tax effect has on optimum SME debt maturity structure. Unlike previous research, this study builds a dynamic adjustment model which endogenizes optimum structure and assumes the existence of adjustment costs. The model is then estimated by applying a system-GMM regression to a complete data panel (12,250 firms) covering the period dating from 1997 to 2004. SMEs adjust to their target at a speed of 35%, which is the equivalent of employing around 20 months to cover only half of the existing gap. This rate is lower than those obtained in other similar papers studying large companies with publicly tradeable equity.

The study of familial migratory network: An inquiry whithin the help center A. Chiara (Palermo)

2004

The present paper proposes a synthetic methodology in order to give a more exhaustive picture of the migratory phenomenon by the use of different instructive sources. In particular we suggest a socio-demographic analysis of the procreative behaviour and familiar strategies. For this purpose a socio-sanitarian centre in Palermo, as a place of observation of the migratory realities, offers the possibility to investigate the process under different facets. The use of a non-institutional centre allows a direct contact with the “less visible” migrants which enables the researcher to get more complete information. This survey has adopted the questionnaire as main tool of investigation, in order t…

On the structure of certain ultradistributions

2009

Let "o" be a nonempty open subset of the k-dimensional euclidean space Rk. In this paper we show that, if S is an ultradistribution in "o", belonging to a class of Roumieu type stable under differential operators, then there is a family f , 2 Nk 0, of elements of L1 loc("o") such that S is represented in the formP 2Nk 0 D"a"f "a". Some other results on the structure of certain ultradistributions of Roumieu type are also given.

On the path representation of networks

1982

A compact data structure for networks is obtained by storing arcs of paths sequentially. This structure allows forward and backward access from a node to its neighbors.
