High performance Athletes dual career support opportunities in the context of the European Union

2015

This article aims to provide an overview of high performance athletes - students dual-career support opportunities in the European Union, in order to create dual career support system in Latvia. The paper provides an explanation of terms, and analyzes the UK, Ireland, Germany, Belgium and other countries' experience in the dual career. In the process is created a comparative overview of the possibilities for support in several European countries. High-performance athletes main types of support are flexible exam schedule, individual study plan, consultations with lecturers, distance learning studies (e-learning), the mentor's advice, and reduced requirements for entrance exams. In Latvia the…

Time optimal control of a satellite with two rotors

2001

International audience; The aim of this work is to investigate the structure of time-optimal trajectories for a control system modelizing a satellite with two rotors attached along its two fixed axes. Our results extend to the general case those obtained by Sussmann and Tang in an unpublished paper where they treat a particular case described below. We end up finding a sufficient family of four parameters trajectory types. The main tools used are the Pontryagin Maximum Principle, switching functions and envelope theory. © 2001 EUCA.

Formwork application optimization by using augmented reality

2016

By using the PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) principle on the formwork case study, after determining the functions and the technical solutions, the application must be made as optimum as possible in order to assure productivity and provide the necessary information as quick as possible. The concept is to create a complex management for the formwork based on augmented reality. By taking into account the development rate of the information, augmented reality is tending to be one of the widest (in term of domain) visualization instrument. Also used in the construction domain, augmented reality can be applied also for the case of formwork design and management. The application of the solutio…

Intelligent Collaborative Platform for Testing a Product by Virtual Prototyping

2013

This paper presents an integrated platform, based on collaborative environment, which can improve the design and prototyping activities. Collaborative activities in supporting product development and design during all product life-cycle, needs a Digital Factory framework. Demonstration of prototyping in real-time where are available changes in geometry, constraints, or other parameters can be based on virtual and augmented platforms. The mechanical and non-mechanical design needs, or any other virtual experiment can be experimented in virtual laboratory where researchers located in different geographical zones, can work on the improvement of product, by sharing resources and research result…

Still Going “Grey” After All These Years? Export Restraint Agreements and the WTO

2013

This chapter assesses how the dual strategy that aimed to eliminate "grey area" measures has worked out in practice, also in the light of the protectionist pressures unleashed by the current economic crisis. After providing a brief overview of the historic proliferation of these measures, it discusses whether the attempt to render ordinary safeguard measures a more attractive alternative to voluntary restraint agreements (VRAs) has worked in practice. The chapter analyses some of the intrinsic and extrinsic weaknesses of the ban itself. The chapter reviews some cases of export-restraint agreements arguably falling within the exceptions to the ban enshrined in Art. 11.1.C. This work has exam…

The Use of Cluster Analysis to Segment Clients of a Sport Center in Spain

2005

Abstract This research examines the motivation profiles of 218 consumers at a sport center in Valencia, Spain. We employed the Motivation in Sport Scale (MISS–Sport Center) with the following eight motives (factors): Positive Affect, Social Contact, Physical Exercise, Coping Strategy, Challenge, Body Image, Competition, and Entertainment. There were significant differences in consumers’ motives across gender, age, and marital status. We identified five motivation profiles using the eight motives of MISS–Sport Center: Non-Competitive Leisure-Oriented Exercisers, Practical Social Entertainers, Affective Users, Enthusiastic Sportspersons, and Passive Participants. There were differences in dem…

CEO gender and SMEs innovativeness: evidence for Spanish businesses

2021

AbstractThis paper analyses the role of gender of the chief executive officer (CEO) on the propensity to introduce innovations using a sample of 1405 Spanish small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). We examine whether there are significant differences between female- and male-led businesses in terms of their propensity to innovate, and whether these differences may be explained by factors related to the attributes of the CEO concerning risk tolerance, self-confidence, education level and cooperative behaviour. In particular, this study tests if the linkages between these managerial attributes and the propensity to innovate are influenced by the gender of the CEO. Using a multivariate pro…

Restraining approach for the spurious kinematic modes in hybrid equilibrium element

2013

The present paper proposes a rigorous approach for the elimination of spurious kinematic modes in hybrid equilibrium elements, for three well known mesh patches. The approach is based on the identification of the dependent equations in the set of inter-element and boundary equilibrium equations of the sides involved in the spurious kinematic mode. Then the kinematic variables related to the dependent equations are reciprocally constrained and, by application of master slave elimination method, the set of inter-element equilibrium equations is reduced to full rank. The elastic solutions produced by means of the proposed approach verify the homogeneous, the inter-element and the boundary equi…

A Push Forward Construction and the Comprehensive Factorization for Internal Crossed Modules

2014

In a semi-abelian category, we give a categorical construction of the push forward of an internal pre-crossed module, generalizing the pushout of a short exact sequence in abelian categories. The main properties of the push forward are discussed. A simplified version is given for action accessible categories, providing examples in the categories of rings and Lie algebras. We show that push forwards can be used to obtain the crossed module version of the comprehensive factorization for internal groupoids.

On the Number of Closed Factors in a Word

2015

A closed word (a.k.a. periodic-like word or complete first return) is a word whose longest border does not have internal occurrences, or, equivalently, whose longest repeated prefix is not right special. We investigate the structure of closed factors of words. We show that a word of length $n$ contains at least $n+1$ distinct closed factors, and characterize those words having exactly $n+1$ closed factors. Furthermore, we show that a word of length $n$ can contain $\Theta(n^{2})$ many distinct closed factors.
