The aim of the study was to evaluate differences in the loading of glenohumeral joint muscles between a cable pulley machine (CP) and variable resistance machine (VR) during axial humeral external rotation.Eleven healthy male subjects took part in the study. Abstract 111 consecutively admitted in-patients with a depressive syndrome received a dexamethasone suppresion test (DST) after all known factors which might confound the test results had been carefully excluded. Plasma concentrations of cortisol, corticosterone and dexamethasone were compared with several diagnostic evaluations (RDC, DSM-III, ICD-9) in a controlled study. The positive predictive value of nonsuppressed corticosteroid levels was only moderate for each diagnostic category. Islet cell antigen (ICA) 69 is a newly-recognized islet cell antigen to which autoantibodies have been observed in prediabetic relatives of patients with insulin-dependent-diabetes mellitus (IDDM). Here we extend the earlier analysis of ICA69 antibodies to patients with recent-onset IDDM and to patients with other immune-mediated diseases. ICA69 antibodies were determined by Western blot using an affinity purified recombinant fusion protein of ICA69 and maltose binding protein. New Neandertal fossils from the Mousterian site of Cova Negra in the Valencia region of Spain are described, and a comprehensive study of the entire human fossil sample is provided. The new specimens significantly augment the sample of human remains from this site and make Cova Negra one of the richest human paleontological sites on the Iberian Peninsula. The new specimens include cranial and postcranial elements from immature individuals and provide an opportunity to study the ontogenetic appearance of adult Neandertal characteristics in this Pleistocene population.
