Polarization transfer in then 2 P-excitation of alkali atoms by longitudinally polarized electrons

1989

In (ns — np)-excitation of alkali atoms by polarized electrons some of the spin orientation of the primary electron beam is transfered to the excited atoms because of exchange collisions. In the present work the polarization transfer to Na, K, Rb, and Cs respectively is studied by looking for the circular light polarization of (np — ns)-decay radiation emitted in forward direction following impact excitation by a beam of longitudinally polarized electrons. Maximum polarization transfers are observed at collision energies with values about 1.5 times that ofnp-thresholds. The transfer increases with increasing atomic number. In case of (6s — 6p)-excitation of cesium 45% of primary electron sp…

Line Identification of Atomic and Ionic Spectra of Holmium in the Near-UV. Part I. Spectrum of Ho i

2017

The Fourier Transform spectra of a Holmium hollow cathode discharge lamp have been investigated in the UV spectral range from 25,000 up to 31,530 cm−1 (317 to 400 nm). Two Ho spectra have been measured with neon and argon as buffer gases. Based on the intensity ratios from these two spectra, a distinction was made between atomic and ionic lines (ionic lines are discussed in an accompanying paper). Using the known Ho i energy levels, 71 lines could be classified as transitions of atomic Ho, 34 of which have not been published previously. Another 32 lines, which could not be classified, are listed in the literature and assigned as atomic Ho. An additional 370 spectral lines have been assigned…

Study of the Planacon XP85012 photomultiplier characteristics for its use in a Cherenkov detector

2016

Main properties of the multi-anode microchannel plate photomultiplier to be used in a Cherenkov detector are discussed. The laboratory test results obtained using irradiation of the MCP-PMT photocathode by picosecond optical laser pulses with different intensities (from single photon regime to the PMT saturation conditions) are presented. peerReviewed

Channeling and Radiation of Electrons in Silicon Single Crystals and Si1−xGexCrystalline Undulators

2013

The phenomenon of channeling and the basic features of channeling radiation emission are introduced in a pedestrian way. Both, radiation spectra as well as dechanneling length measurements at electron beam energies between 195 and 855 MeV feature quantum state phenomena for the (110) planar potential of the silicon single crystals. Radiation from a crystalline undulator, produced at the Aarhus University (UAAR), has been investigated at the Mainz Microtron electron accelerator facility MAMI. The 4-period epitaxially grown strained layer Si1−xGex undulator had a period length λu = 9.9 μm. At a beam energy of 375 MeV a broad excess yield around the theoretically expected photon energy of 0.13…

Spin polarized electron transport and partial localization of photoelectrons in highly doped photocathodes

2011

The results of experimental and theoretical studies of spin polarized electron transport in semiconductor SL used for photoemitter application are presented. The experimental study is based on the time resolved measurements of electron emission from the cathode after its photoexcitation by fs laser pulse. The response and spin relaxation times have been determined by means of measured time dependent intensity and polarization of electron emission. We also performed theoretical calculations of photocathode pulse response and compared the obtained results with experimental data. Our analysis testifies the presence of partial electron localization in SL. Electron capture by localized states le…

HIGH-RESOLUTION FOURIER TRANSFORM SPECTROSCOPY OF LANTHANUM IN Ar DISCHARGE IN THE NEAR-INFRARED

2013

A high-resolution spectrum of lanthanum has been recorded by a Fourier Transform spectrometer in the wavelength range from 833 nm to 1666 nm (6000 cm{sup –1} to 12,000 cm{sup –1}) using as light source a hollow cathode lamp operated with argon as the discharge carrier gas. In total, 2386 spectral lines were detected in this region, of which 555 lines could be classified as La I transitions and 10 lines as La II transitions. All La II transitions and 534 of these La I transitions were classified for the first time, and 6 of the La II transitions and 433 of the classified La I transitions appear to be new lines, which could not be found in the literature. The corresponding energy level data o…

Design of a double-gap Hughes-type coupled-cavity for a Ka-band Extended Interaction Klystron

2020

In this paper, the design of a Ka-band Extended-Interaction Klystron (EIK) working at 2$\pi$ mode. The interaction structure is a three-gap Hughes-type coupled-cavity. Based on the results obtained with the 3D model developed by using CST, “cold electrical parameters” have been calculated, necessary to measure the interaction with the electron beam. The structure stability and the synchronization with the electron beam are analyzed The large-signal analysis is performed by 1D software AJDISK. Under the beam voltage and current of 19.55 kV and 0.95 A, respectively, an RF output power value of 3.86 kW and a bandwidth gain value of 37. 06 dB have been obtained

Mono-energetic electron induced single-event effects at the VESPER facility

2016

We present experimental evidence of electron induced upsets in a reference ESA SEU monitor, the SEU based particle detector, induced by 200 MeV electron beam at the VESPER facility at CERN. Comparison of experimental cross sections and simulated cross sections are shown and the differences are analyzed. Possible secondary contributions to the upset rate by neutrons and cumulative dose effects are discussed, showing that electronuclear reactions are the expected SEU mechanism. Insight is given as to possible overall electron contribution to the upset rates in the Jovian radiation environment inside a typical spacecraft shielding are evaluated.

The REX-ISOLDE project

2002

REX-ISOLDE is a pilot experiment at ISOLDE/CERN to study the structure of neutron-rich nuclei (N=20, N=28) with post-accelerated radioactive ion beams (1). Therefore radioactive ions with charge state 1+, which are delivered by the online mass separator ISOLDE, are accelerated up to 2.2 MeV/u by means of a new concept. The radioactive ions are first accumulated in a Penning trap, then charge breeded to a charge-to-mass ratio of 1/4.5 in an Electron Beam Ion Source (EBIS) and finally accelerated. The LINAC consists of three components, namely a Radio Frequency Quadrupole (RFQ) accelerator, which accelerates the ions from 5 to 300 keV/u, an interdigital H-type structure (IH) with a final ener…

Measurement and interpretation of the polarization of the x-ray line emission of heliumlike Fe XXV excited by an electron beam

1996

The linear polarization of the 1s2p${\mathrm{}}^{1}$${\mathit{P}}_{1}$\ensuremath{\rightarrow}1${\mathit{s}}^{2}$${\mathrm{}}^{1}$${\mathit{S}}_{0}$ resonance line, the 1s2p${\mathrm{}}^{3}$${\mathit{P}}_{1,2}$\ensuremath{\rightarrow}1${\mathit{s}}^{2}$${\mathrm{}}^{1}$${\mathit{S}}_{0}$ intercombination lines, and the 1s2s${\mathrm{}}^{3}$${\mathit{S}}_{1}$\ensuremath{\rightarrow}1${\mathit{s}}^{2}$${\mathrm{}}^{1}$${\mathit{S}}_{0}$ forbidden line was measured in heliumlike Fe XXV excited near threshold by a monoenergetic electron beam. The measurement was carried out with a high-resolution x-ray spectrometer employing a set of two analyzing crystals that acted as polarizers by selectivel…
