The response behaviour of LiF:Mg,Cu,P thermoluminescence dosimeters to high-energy electron beams used in radiotherapy

To ensure the effectiveness of radiation-therapy treatments, both in-phantom and in-patient reliable dose measurements are required. Thermoluminescence dosimeters are used commonly for both applications. Among the various available materials, the relatively new LiF:Mg,Cu,P phosphor is a suitable candidate for quality control of in vivo dosimetry in electron-beam therapy. The response behaviour of LiF:Mg,Cu,P chips to 6-21 MeV electron beams used in radiotherapy was studied. Investigation of diffusion and electromigration of hydrogen in palladium and PdAg alloy

Abstract Diffusion and electromigration of hydrogen in PdH 0.1 , Pd 77 Ag 23 H 0.1 and Pd 50 Ag 50 H 0.1 alloy were measured by means of resistivity method. It is known that hydrogen migrates towards the cathode within the temperature range of 300–473 K in the PdH 0.1 and Pd 77 Ag 23 H 0.1 system. In Pd 50 Ag 50 H 0.1 , hydrogen migrates towards the cathode below 400 K, but towards the anode at higher temperatures. Its effective valency increases together with temperature. At the same time it satisfies the linear dependence on inverse specific resistance ρ : Z eff = Z i +( k / ρ ). The constants Z i and k have the following values: (1.05±0.01) and −(3.81±0.04)×10 −8 Ω m for hydrogen in PdH …

Novel Configuration for a C-Band Axial Vircator With High Output Power

We present a novel configuration for an axial virtual cathode oscillator (Vircator) operating in the C-band and designed for high output power applications. In order to enhance the efficiency, we have employed a geometry with up to seven reflectors along the drift space. While in previous research works this optimization process has been performed only varying the reflectors radii while using a fixed distance between reflectors,in our work we propose an optimization in terms of both reflectors radii and distances. The aim of the present work is to evaluate the behavior, from the space charge accumulation phenomenon point of view, of three different XLPE specimens used as insulation materials in high voltage systems. Considering that under DC stress the charge accumulation is more relevant as compared to the AC case, in the specimens for DC applications additives are typically added. The polarization dependence of x‐ray photoelectron yield of a Au photocathode

We report a measurement of the total photoelectron yield of gold as a function of the incident x‐ray polarization. Polarized x rays with energies of 2.5, 2.7, and 4.0 keV were used to excite a gold photocathode at a glancing incidence angle between 5° and 50°. Contrary to a previous report, we found no measurable polarization dependence for all three x‐ray energies. We conclude that the modulation factor, i.e., the fractional change of the total yield when the polarization state is varied, is less than 4%.

Enhanced flexibility and electron-beam-controlled shape recovery in alumina-coated Au and Ag core–shell nanowires

The proper choice of coating materials and methods in core–shell nanowire (NW) engineering is crucial to assuring improved characteristics or even new functionalities of the resulting composite structures. In this paper, we have reported electron-beam-induced reversible elastic-to-plastic transition in Ag/Al2O3 and Au/Al2O3 NWs prepared by the coating of Ag and Au NWs with Al2O3 by low-temperature atomic layer deposition. The observed phenomenon enabled freezing the bent core–shell NW at any arbitrary curvature below the yield strength of the materials and later restoring its initially straight profile by irradiating the NW with electrons. Spectroscopic response and charge transport properties of CdZnTe detectors grown by the vertical Bridgman technique

In this work, we present the results of spectroscopic investigations on CdZnTe (CZT) detectors grown by the boron oxide encapsulated vertical Bridgman technique (1MEM-CNR, Parma, Italy). The detectors, with different thicknesses (1 and 2.5 mm), are characterized by the same electrode layout (gold electroless contacts): the anode is a central electrode (2 x 2 mm(2)) surrounded by a guard-ring electrode, while the cathode is a planar electrode covering the detector surface (4.1 x 4.1 mm(2)). The results of electrical investigations point out the low leakage currents of these detectors even at high bias voltages: 38 nA/cm(2) (T = 25 degrees C) at 10000 V/cm.
