Rat tyrosine kinase inhibitor shows sequence similarity to human α2-HS glycoprotein and bovine fetuin

Human alpha 2-HS glycoprotein and bovine fetuin, abundant proteins of fetal plasma, are structural members of the fetuin family within the cystatin superfamily. They are characterized by the presence of two N-terminally located cystatin-like units and a unique C-terminal sequence segment not present in the other members of the cystatin superfamily. Search for related sequences revealed that the natural inhibitor of the insulin receptor tyrosine kinase [Auberger, Falquerho, Contreres, Pages, Le Cam, Rossi & Le Cam (1989) Cell (Cambridge, Mass.) 58, 631-640] shows sequence similarity to the mammalian fetuins. Biochemical and structural features of a novel cyclodextrinase from cow rumen metagenome.

A novel enzyme, RA.04, belonging to the alpha-amylase family was obtained after expression of metagenomic DNA from rumen fluid (Ferrer et al.: Environ. Microbiol. 2005, 7, 1996-2010). The purified RA.04 has a tetrameric structure (280 kDa) and exhibited maximum activity (5000 U/mg protein) at 70 degrees C and was active within an unusually broad pH range from 5.5 to 9.0. It maintained 80% activity at pH 5.0 and 9.5 and 75 degrees C. The enzyme hydrolyzed alpha-D-(1,4) bonds 13-fold faster than alpha-D-(1,6) bonds to yield maltose and glucose as the main products, and it exhibited transglycosylation activity. Summary Currently, in vitro-produced embryos derived by ovum pick up (OPU) and in vitro fertilization (IVF) technologies represent approximately one-third of the embryos worldwide in cattle. Nevertheless, the culture of small groups of embryos from an individual egg donor is an issue that OPU-IVF laboratories have to face. Bresaola made from Cinisara cattle: effect of muscle type and animal category on physicochemical and sensory traits

The physicochemical characteristics and sensory traits of Cinisara bresaola were investigated, to explore a new commercial opportunity for autochthonous dairy cattle farms. Semimembranosus, Semitendinosus and Biceps brachii muscles, from adult cows (AC) and grazing (GB) or housed (HB) young bulls of Cinisara breed, were processed to made bresaola. Differences due to animal category and muscle type were observed. Bresaola from AC was richer in fat and volatile organic compounds. The bresaola from Semitendinosus showed higher colorimetric parameters, fat and, when from grazing animals, Warner-Bratzler shear force than those made from other muscles. In the visual process, one photoexcited rhodopsin (R*) catalyzes the activation of hundreds of G-proteins. It remains to be determined whether G-protein and R* find one another by membrane surface diffusion of these components (diffusion model) or by diffusion of G-protein through the aqueous phase (hopping model). Effect of lactoferrin addition on the dialysability of iron from infant formulas

A possible enhancing effect of lactoferrin (Lf) on iron absorption by breast-fed infants has been suggested, however the available results failed to confirm this hypothesis. Nevertheless, Lf could be useful in protecting the lipid fraction of infant formulas against oxidation. Concerning the possibility of adding Lf to infant formulas with this aim, we considered it necessary to evaluate the effect of this addition on iron dialysability, which was used as a parameter indicator of bioavailability.
