The expression of intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1, CD54) was examined in 16 surgically removed colonic tumours and two colonic carcinoma cell lines. Immunohistochemistry showed a varying percentage of ICAM-1 positive colonic carcinoma cells in 9/16 tissue specimens, while normal colonic tissue (apart from a slight reactivity of endothelial cells) was not stained. The presence of the ICAM-1 molecule on the cell surface and the expression of ICAM-1 mRNA were investigated for two colonic carcinoma cell lines. The etiology and pathogenesis of epilepsy-associated local lesions remain largely unknown. Histopathologically, the most frequent lesions comprise gangliogliomas and glioneuronal malformations, i.e., hamartias or hamartomas, with a preferred location in the temporal lobe of young patients. A characteristic histopathological admixture of glial and neuronal elements, the focal appearance and the benign clinical behaviour suggest a malformative nature. We report on a facile and rapid computerized in-vitro assay for the quantification of leukocyte adhesion to endothelial cells under static conditions using bovine polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMN) or human leukaemic Mono Mac 6 cells (MM6) and bovine aorta endothelial cells (BAEC). Images of leukocytes adherent to BAEC monolayers grown in microtiter plates were obtained by a digital camera attached to a conventional microscope and transferred to the public domain NIH ImageJ program for analysis. Ameloblastoma is the most common odontogenic tumor of epithelial origin, and though it is of a benign nature, it frequently infiltrates the bone, has a high rate of recurrence and could potentially become malignant.
