Organy w utworze Medytacje Tomasza Kulikowskiego
2019
This article contains the results of the analysis of the piece Meditations by Tomasz Kulikowski. He is a contemporary Polish composer, organist and teacher. The first part of the article is devoted to his life and work. The next one presents the circumstances of the creating the composition, with particular regard to the title given. Meditations were written in 2003. It is a chamber piece for the organ and cello. The third part contains an analysis of the composition structure. The significance of the organ for various elements of the work turned out to be extremely interesting. Their functions are described in the fourth part.
Kontrakty Jana Fryderyka Sapiehy z lat 1725-1743. Przyczynek do działalności majątkowej i artystycznej magnata w dawnej Rzeczypospolitej
2017
John Frederick Sapieha, Chancellor of the Grand Duchy of Lithuanian, after the death of his brother Nicholas in 1716, bccame the sole heir to a fortune of line of Koden. For obvious and probably also for sentimental reasons Sapieha most carcd about Koden. He was also intcrested in the development of the religious mentioned of the city by providing and paying for the rich interior of the local church under the invocation of St. Annc. John Frederick took good care of his property not only by affecting their development and investing in various aspects of economic activity, which had of course bring certain profits. An important element in the functioning of landed estates were also contracts …
Influence of the physical state of water on the barrier properties of hydrophilic and hydrophobic films.
2000
Water transfer through different films, as a function of the physical state of water in contact with the film, the relative humidity difference, and the water vapor pressure difference, was investigated. The films were two synthetic packagings (hydrophobic polyethylene and hydrophilic cellophane) and an edible film. The physical state of water affects water sensitive films, such as cellophane, inducing a higher liquid water transfer due to interactions with the polymer. For hydrophobic polymers, such as polyethylene, neither the physical state of water nor the relative humidity has an influence on the water permeability. In complex system, such as an edible film composed of hydrophilic part…
The yeastWickerhamomyces anomalusAS1 secretes a multifunctional exo-β-1,3-glucanase with implications for winemaking
2014
A multifunctional exo-β-1,3-glucanase (WaExg2) was purified from the culture supernatant of the yeast Wickerhamomyces anomalus AS1. The enzyme was identified by mass spectroscopic analysis of tryptic peptide fragments and the encoding gene WaEXG2 was sequenced. The latter codes for a protein of 427 amino acids, beginning with a probable signal peptide (17 aa) for secretion. The mature protein has a molecular mass of 47 456 Da with a calculated pI of 4.84. The somewhat higher mass of the protein in SDS–PAGE might be due to bound carbohydrates. Presumptive disulphide bridges confer a high compactness to the molecule. This explains the apparent smaller molecular mass (35 kDa) of the native enz…
Temperature influence on moisture transfer through synthetic films
2000
Abstract Water transfer through films was investigated as a function of the temperature, the physical state of water and the relative humidity (RH) difference. The films were two synthetic packagings: a hydrophobic one, the polyethylene, a hydrophilic one, the cellophane. Some phenomena which could occur at low temperatures were discussed, such as polymer structure change due to mechanical relaxation or network plasticisation and modification of the penetrant diffusion at its melting temperature. But it seems that the comparison of water permeabilities (WPs) with temperature, especially at subzero temperatures, requires the correction of their calculation with the difference of water chemic…
Absence of the endo-beta-1,4-glucanases Cel1 and Cel2 reduces susceptibility to Botrytis cinerea in tomato.
2007
Cel1 and Cel2 are members of the tomato (Solanum lycopersicum Mill) endo-beta-1,4-glucanase (EGase) family that may play a role in fruit ripening and organ abscission. This work demonstrates that Cel1 protein is present in other vegetative tissues and accumulates during leaf development. We recently reported the downregulation of both the Cel1 mRNA and protein upon fungal infection, suggesting the involvement of EGases in plant-pathogen interactions. This hypothesis was confirmed by assessing the resistance to Botrytis cinerea infection of transgenic plants expressing both genes in an antisense orientation (Anti-Cel1, Anti-Cel2 and Anti-Cel1-Cel2). The Anti-Cel1-Cel2 plants showed enhanced …

Retrograde Nailing of Humeral Shaft Fractures
1998
The use of intramedullary nailing in the upper extremity is still controversial. Those who have experience with antegrade nailing have either great enthusiasm or strong criticism for the procedure. Criticism of the procedure is because of the trauma that can occur to the rotator cuff and possible impingement syndrome, which can occur after antegrade nail insertion. The technique of retrograde nail insertion with the unreamed humeral nail is described in detail. In a series of 190 retrograde nailings performed in a prospective multicenter study, the most frequent intraoperative problems were fissure or avulsion at the entry portal (n = 8; 4.2%) and secondary radial nerve palsy (n = 8; 4.2%).…
Vergleich radiologischer Verfahren zur präoperativen Beurteilung der Verankerungsfestigkeit von Wirbelsäulenimplantaten
1997
PURPOSE To compare three techniques with regards to their ability to estimate pull out strength of spinal fusion hardware. MATERIAL AND METHODS VDS-screw fixation strength in 50 human cadaveric vertebral bodies was approximated by means of pull out force measurement. Bone quality was assessed by Dual X-ray Absorptiometry (DXA). Quantitative Computed Tomography (QCT) and T2*-relaxation time. For each of these techniques, correlation with axial pull out force strength was investigated. RESULTS Highest correlation was found for cancellous bone density measured by QCT (r = 0.72; p < 0.001). Immediately followed by DXA (r = 0.70; p < 0.001), which involves all bone components. Inverted T2*-relax…
