A cross‐sectional, multi‐center study on treatment of facial acne scars with low‐energy double‐pass 1450‐nm diode laser
2020
Acne scars are the ultimate outcome of acne vulgaris, a prevalent skin disorder affecting the pilo-sebaceous unit. Laser resurfacing has been demonstrated to be an efficient therapy option for acne scars. Hence, we adopted this concept and conducted a study to evaluate the safety and efficacy of low-energy double-pass 1450-nm diode laser on acne scars. This study was conducted on 48 patients with acne scars, treated at 4-week interval with low-energy double-pass 1450-nm diode laser. Patients were evaluated clinically and with photographs, at day 0, first month and third month post the final treatment and during follow-up visit. Five treatment sessions were completed by all patients. Approxi…
Definition, aims, and implementation of GA [sup] 2 LEN/HAEi Angioedema Centers of Reference and Excellence
2020
This document summarizes the aims of GA2 LEN/HAEi Angioedema Centers of Reference and Excellence (ACAREs) and elaborates the requirements that ACAREs must fulfill to become certified. It also provides (see Appendix S1) background information on GA2LEN and HAEi, including HAEi member organizations and regional patient advocates, on why we need an Angioedema Center of Reference and Excellence (ACARE) program and network, and on the accreditation and certification process, governance and funding, and on the interaction with other GA2LEN networks of centers of reference and excellence. The protocols, aims, requirements, and provisions related to becoming a certified CARE are based on (a) the ex…
A Multicenter International Randomized Controlled Manikin Study on Different Protocols of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation for Laypeople: The MANI-CPR T…
2021
Background Compression-only cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a suggested technique for laypeople facing out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). However, it is difficult performing high-quality CPR until emergency medical services arrival with this technique. We aimed to verify whether incorporating intentional interruptions of different frequency and duration increases laypeople's CPR quality during an 8-minute scenario compared with compression-only CPR. Methods We performed a multicenter randomized manikin study selecting participants from 2154 consecutive laypeople who followed a basic life support/automatic external defibrillation course. People who achieved high-quality CPR in 1-m…
A structured training pathway to implement robot-assisted minimally invasive esophagectomy: the learning curve results from a high-volume center
2019
ABSTRACTTo ensure safe implementation of robot-assisted minimally invasive esophagectomy (RAMIE), the learning process should be optimized. This study aimed to report the results of a surgeon who implemented RAMIE in a German high-volume center by following a tailored and structured training pathway that involved proctoring. Consecutive patients who underwent RAMIE during the course of the program were included from a prospective database. A single surgeon, who had prior experience in conventional MIE, performed all RAMIE procedures. Cumulative sum (CUSUM) learning curves were plotted for the thoracic operating time and intraoperative blood loss. Perioperative outcomes were compared between…
Worldwide Techniques and Outcomes in Robot-assisted Minimally Invasive Esophagectomy (RAMIE): Results From the Multicenter International Registry
2022
OBJECTIVE: This international multicenter study by the Upper GI International Robotic Association aimed to gain insight in current techniques and outcomes of RAMIE worldwide.BACKGROUND: Current evidence for RAMIE originates from single-center studies, which may not be generalizable to the international multicenter experience.METHODS: Twenty centers from Europe, Asia, North-America, and South-America participated from 2016 to 2019. Main endpoints included the surgical techniques, clinical outcomes, and early oncological results of ramie.RESULTS: A total of 856 patients undergoing transthoracic RAMIE were included. Robotic surgery was applied for both the thoracic and abdominal phase (45%), o…
Robot-assisted and conventional minimally invasive esophagectomy are associated with better postoperative results compared to hybrid and open transth…
2021
BACKGROUND Currently 4 surgical techniques are performed for transthoracic esophagectomy (open esophagectomy (OE), hybrid esophagectomy (HE), conventional minimally invasive esophagectomy (MIE) and robot assisted minimally invasive esophagectomy (RAMIE). Aim of this study was to compare these 4 different esophagectomy approaches regarding postoperative complications and short term oncologic outcomes. METHODS Between 2008 and 2019, consecutive patients who underwent esophagectomy with gastric conduit reconstruction were included in this single center study. The primary outcome of this study was the incidence of postoperative complications. RESULTS Overall 422 patients (OE (n = 107), HE (n = …

Local Treatment of Urogenital Atrophy with an Estradiol-Releasing Vaginal Ring: A Comparative and a Placebo-Controlled Multicenter Study
1999
Local estrogen substitution has been shown to be more appropriate than any systemic application for the treatment of urogenital symptoms of hormone defiency. The efficacy, safety and acceptability of a new low-dose drug delivery system consisting of an estradiol-releasing silicone vaginal ring was studied in two multicenter trials. In an open-label comparative trial a total of 219 postmenopausal women were randomized to the estradiol-releasing vaginal ring or to estriol suppositories. In terms of efficacy both treatment arms were shown to be equivalent; however, significantly higher rates of acceptability were found for the vaginal ring. In a double-blinded placebo-controlled study a total …
