Sleep monitoring of a six-day microcycle in strength and high-intensity training

This study examined the effect of microcycles in eccentric strength and high-intensity interval training (HIT) on sleep parameters and subjective ratings. Forty-two well-trained athletes (mean age 23.2 ± 2.4 years) were either assigned to the strength (n = 21; mean age 23.6 ± 2.1 years) or HIT (n = 21; mean age 22.8 ± 2.6 years) protocol. Sleep monitoring was conducted with multi-sensor actigraphy (SenseWear Armband™, Bodymedia, Pittsburg, PA, USA) and sleep log for 14 days. Changes in motor unit activity and metabolism in human skeletal muscle during and after repeated eccentric and concentric contractions.

This study was designed to investigate electromyographic (EMG), muscle glycogen and blood lactate changes in quadriceps muscle group during repeated 40 maximal eccentric and concentric contractions, and to follow the recovery in EMG, muscle glycogen and serum creatine kinase values during a 4 day period following the work test. The subjects were normal males and the test order (eccentric or concentric) was randomly selected. The results indicated first, that the EMG parameters (IEMG, AMUP), muscle glycogen and blood lactate changed in a similar manner during the both fatigue loads. Evidence of neuromuscular fatigue after prolonged cycling exercise

Distinct patterns of heparin affinity chromatography VLDL1 and VLDL2 subfractions in the different dyslipidaemias

Very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) 1 and 2 were fractionated by heparin affinity chromatography into a bound and an unbound fraction and the different subfractions were quantified in 17 normolipidaemic (NL), 13 hypercholesterolaemic (HC), 10 hypertriglyceridaemic (HTG) and 11 combined hyperlipidaemic subjects (CHL). Unbound VLDL1 and VLDL2 were, respectively, 1.9- and 2.2-fold richer in triglycerides than bound VLDL1 and VLDL2. In HTG and CHL the concentration of all the VLDL subfractions was increased and plasma triglyceride level was correlated to unbound VLDL1 and to bound VLDL1 (respectively, r=0.86 (p<0.001) and r=0.77 (p<0.01) in HTG and r=0.73 (p<0.001) and r=0.62 (p<0.05) in CHL). …

This study examined the effects of different dynamic accentuated external resistance load levels during the eccentric(ECC) phase of ECC-concentric (CON) actions on acute neuromuscular, maximal force, and power responses in the bench press exercise in male subjects (age, = 32 +/- 4 years; n = 11). Effects of different accentuated eccentric loads on acute neuromuscular, growth hormone, and blood lactate responses during a hypertrophic protocol.

This study monitored acute neuromuscular responses and growth hormone (GH) and blood lactate (La) concentrations in the eccentric-concentric (ECC-CON) hypertrophic protocol by using various dynamic accentuated external resistance (DAER) loads in the bench press exercise.
