Conceptual Overview of an Anthropocentric Training Station for Manual Operations in Production

Abstract The paper presents a conceptual overview of a human-centred training station for manual operations (ATASMO). It identifies the main users of the system but also the long-tern targeted features of ATASMO. Moreover, the current implementation, its limitations and future work on ATASMO is synthetically presented.
Us and them: intercultural sensitivity of Polish and Georgian adolescent multilinguals

The aim of this study is to compare the levels of intercultural sensitivity (IS) in teenage multilinguals coming from two post-communist countries: Poland (N=293) and Georgia (N=240). Aside from quantitative data the Intercultural Sensitivity Scale by Chen & Starosta., the qualitative part of the study focused on exploring quality of contacts with another culture. It was found that Polish students demonstrated significantly lower levels of intercultural sensitivity in spite of their greater foreign language experience. Abstract This text departs from a contradictory claim in deaf studies and sound studies: both disciplines describe a hierarchical regime of the sensible – visuocentrism and audiocentrism – which they try to counter with conceptualisations as “acoustemology” or “deaf gain.” However, as we argue, they both thereby erect what they claim to overcome: a sensual regime that privileges one sense over another and a restricted conception of subjectivity deriving from it. First, we draw a philosophical line in the critique of sensual regimes. From being alone to being the only one: Neuroticism is associated with an egocentric shift in an alone context

Objective This research presents evidence for an egocentric shift occurring among individuals high in Neuroticism by the mere thought-and actual state-of being alone. Method Four experiments and one experience sampling study (N = 719). In the experiments, Neuroticism was measured, and participants were randomly primed to adopt either an alone or a "with others" social context mind-set. The experiments measured different expressions of egocentrism. Study 1 measured perspective-taking, Study 2a was focused on social value orientation, Study 2b measured money allocation in a dictator game, and Study 3 measured self-reported and behavioral interpersonal trust. THE DIASCIA FLOWER AND ITS BEE - AN OIL-BASED SYMBIOSIS IN SOUTHERN AFRICA

As has been formerly shown, the double-spurred flowers of the South African genus Diascia (Scrophulariaceae) produce fatty oil as a primary attractant. Their oil-collecting pollinators have so far remained unknown. It is concluded from the morphology and from direct evidence of flower visitation that the recently established Melittid genus Rediviva represents the co-evolved pollinator group of these plants, at the same time demonstrating the presence of “manual” oil collectors in Southern Africa. This paper starts by investigating the Aristotelian roots of Heidegger’s stance toward animal life from 1924 lecture course “Basic concepts of Aristotelian philosophy” to 1929/30 lecture course “The fundamental concepts of Metaphysics”. In following Aristotle, Heidegger displays the ontological transition from life to existence as grounded to the peculiar linguistic ability of human beings. In doing that, both Heidegger and Aristotle seem to establish a connection between an existential faculty (logos) and the apparently dominant position occupied by our species. This paper explores a possible anthropological dimension of place by providing an interpretation of Helmuth Plessner’s philosophical approach which proposes to understand it as a twofold “implacement” of man – discussing both the place of man in the natural world and man’s specific relation to place that makes him take his place in the natural world.
