UNLABELLED In this study, we investigated the effects of 1.0 and 2.0 minimum alveolar anesthetic concentration (MAC) sevoflurane on cerebral blood flow (CBF) autoregulation before and after nonselective inhibition of nitric oxide (NO) synthase in rats. ABSTRACT Early identification of Acanthamoeba in cerebrospinal fluid is mandatory to prevent fatal granulomatous amebic encephalitis. In the case presented here amebic trophozoites were detected in a routine cerebrospinal fluid sample. The antibiotic treatment and the apparently low virulence of this isolate were responsible for the benign progression of the infection.

Abstract KA-672, a lipophilic benzopyranone derivative which is currently under development as a cognitive enhancer and antidementia drug, has previously been shown to have facilitatory effects on learning and memory in rats at doses of 0.1–1 mg/kg. We now report that KA-672 inhibited the activity of acetylcholinesterase (AChE), measured in vitro in rat brain cortical homogenate, with an IC 50 value of 0.36 μ M indicating that KA-672 may improve cognitive functions as a consequence of AChE inhibition. Objective: To examine the potential value of fetal ultrasound and maternal characteristics in the prediction of antepartum stillbirth after 32 weeks’ gestation. Methods: This was a retrospective multicenter study in Spain. In 29 pregnancies, umbilical artery pulsatility index (UA PI), middle cerebral artery pulsatility index (MCA PI), cerebroplacental ratio (CPR), estimated fetal weight (EFW), and maternal characteristics were recorded within 15 days prior to a stillbirth.
