150 years of financial regulation in Spain : what can we learn?
2014
This paper explores the changes effected in the Spanish regulatory regimes over the last 150 years, and asks what have been the forces driving the regulatory reforms. A study of the Spanish experience reveals that there was relatively little statutory legislation until 1914 and for a long time there was no reaction to crises. In contrast, regulations have been altered on numerous occasions in the twentieth century. The paper also shows that the regulatory process has been the result of the interplay between economic as well as political economy forces. Moreover, and despite some idiosyncratic features, the Spanish regulatory history is similar to that of other European nations.

Adquisició de terceres llengües: estat de la qüestió
2003
The last ten years have witnessed a growing interest in the acquisition of third languages (L3s). Due to their sociolinguistic characteristics, Catalonia and the Basque Country are at the forefront in production of published empirical research in L3 acquisition. This article provides a review of research in L3 acquisition and argues that this research is worthwhile for practical and theoretical reasons. L3 acquisition studies can inform decisions regarding appropriate timing and procedures to incorporate foreign languages (L3s) in the bilingual curriculum, and they can shed light on important theoretical issues, such as the role of experience in language processing and the role of transfer …

Reliģisko svētku statuss Latvijā
2020
Tēma šobrīd ir īpaši aktuāla, ņemot vērā to, ka kopš 1990. gada katras Saeimas deputāti iesniedz identiskus…

From ubiquity into oblivion : valencian banks as casualties of the multinational banks in Spain
2014
The economy of the Valencia region (Comunidad Valenciana) in Spain has suffered the consequences of Spanish and Valencian corruption in its banking and government policies. The scandalous/outrageous and dangerous 26% unemployment rate nationwide has reached almost 30% in the Valencia region. From a regional perspective, there have been historical tensions between centre and periphery, seen with the Franco regime (1939¿1975) that reaffirmed the pre-eminence of private commercial banks and handicapped traditional savings banks, implementing a practice from the 1920s called the principle of territoriality. Until 1974 the savings banks or 'cajas' remained outside the Spanish clearinghouse syste…
Simulation of nitrous oxide emissions from wheat-cropped soils using CERES
2005
Estimation of nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from arable soils, in relation to crop fertilization, is essential to devise strategies to mitigate the impact of agriculture on global warming. This paper presents the development and test of a N2O model resulting from the linkage of a dynamic soil-crop simulation model (CERES) with two sub-models of N2O production and reduction in soils. These sub-models (NOE and NGAS) account for both the nitrification and denitrification pathways. The resulting models (CERES–NOE and CERES–NGAS) were tested against experimental data collected on three contrasting wheat-cropped soils representative of the Beauce agricultural region in France. Although the input …
