Plasmalogens in the retina: From occurrence in retinal cell membranes to potential involvement in pathophysiology of retinal diseases

Plasmalogens (Pls) represent a specific subclass of glycerophospholipids characterized by the presence of a vinyl-ether bond at the sn-1 position of glycerol. Pls are quantitatively important in membranes of neuronal tissues, including the brain and the retina, where they can represent until almost two-third of ethanolamine glycerophospholipids. They are considered as reservoirs of polyunsaturated fatty acids as several studies have shown that arachidonic and docosahexaenoic acids are preferentially esterified on Pls when compared to other glycerophospholipids. In recent years, several explorations of what Stephen Newmyer has aptly called the ‘man alone of animals’ topos have pointed out that in asserting the privileged status of humans the ancients attached special importance to articulate language. En este artículo nos centramos en la figura del marabout al descubrir su relevancia en la sociedad senegalesa en el transcurso de un proyecto que emprendimos en Senegal para conocer sobre el terreno los distintos aspectos del impacto de la emigración en un país de origen como éste que aporta un alto contingente de inmigrantes a España. Influence of interactions on water and aroma permeabilities of ι-carrageenan–oleic acid–beeswax films used for flavour encapsulation

The objective of this work is to investigate the water and aroma barrier properties of films obtained from ι-carrageenan containing glycerol and lipids mixtures of oleic acid (OA) and beeswax (BW) used for encapsulation of active compounds. Water vapor permeability (WVP) is greatly influenced by lipid composition, encapsulated aroma compound and also relative humidity. WVP decreases when films contain encapsulated aroma compound but increases when the moisture content in the films increases. When oleic acid was the main compound of lipid phase, the plasticizing effect of water revealed through water permeability is less marked. Esta investigación se centra en el estudio de la electropolimerización y el comportamiento de Rojo Neutro sobre superficies de acero inoxidable. El objetivo de este trabajo se fundamenta en la obtención de depósitos poliméricos estables sobre estas superficies con objeto de estudiar las propiedades anticorrosivas del polímero en medios clorurados. Se han empleado técnicas electroquímicas para generar depósitos estables de Poli-(Rojo Neutro) sobre superficies de acero inoxidable 304 y de acero al carbono.
