Optiskas metodes asinsvadu dzīšanas novērtējumam un monitoringam

2016

Comparison between Laparoscopic and Robotic Approach for Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy in Endometrial Carcinoma Women

2022

Robotic surgery has been approved as an alternative to laparoscopy to improve surgical outcomes. There is neither a consensus nor a systematic assessment of the literature about the superiority of the robotic approach over the laparoscopic one for sentinel lymph node (SLN) biopsy in endometrial carcinoma (EC) women. Therefore, a systematic review and meta-analysis was performed to compare the laparoscopic and robotic approaches for SLN biopsy in EC patients. Five electronic databases were queried from their inception to May 2022 for peer-reviewed studies, comparing such approaches in SLN biopsy in EC patients. The rate of detected SLN, dissected SLN, intraoperative and postoperative complic…

Is spectral domain optical coherence tomography useful in improving the contour line with the heidelberg retina tomograph?

2012

Purpose: To compare the measurements of the optic disc in glaucoma patients and glaucoma suspects with spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) and confocal scanning laser ophthalmoscopy (HRT) before and after adjustment of the contour line with the help of the OCT.Methods: In 109 consecutive patients (109 eyes), optic disc parameters were compared prospectively between the 2 devices before and after adjustment of the optic disc area (ODA) on the HRT3 with ODA obtained with the Cirrus SD-OCT as a reference. Intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) and the 95% limits of agreement (LoA) with Bland-Altman plots were used to compare the agreement of the pre and post-adjustment mea…

Eficacia de procesamiento de los entrañamientos y de las implicaturas conversacionales generalizadas: la lógica deductiva y la lógica por defecto

2022

This work aims to study the processing differences that occur between deductive logic and default logic. Since the entailments are based on deductive logic and generalised conversational implicatures (GCI) are built from the default logic, two questionnaires were proposed to collect the processing efficiency expressed as the number of hits per minute. The data collected shows that there is a significant difference in the processing of entailments and ICGs: entailments are processed more efficiently than ICGs and, therefore, it is concluded that the default logic requires greater cognitive effort. Este trabajo tiene como objetivo estudiar las diferencias de procesamiento que se producen al a…

Update I. A systematic review on the efficacy and safety of chloroquine/hydroxychloroquine for COVID-19

2020

Purpose To assess efficacy and safety of chloroquine (CQ)/hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) for treatment or prophylaxis of COVID-19 in adult humans. Materials and methods MEDLINE, PubMed, EMBASE and two pre-print repositories (bioRxiv, medRxiv) were searched from inception to 8th June 2020 for RCTs and nonrandomized studies (retrospective and prospective, including single-arm, studies) addressing the use of CQ/HCQ in any dose or combination for COVID-19. Results Thirty-two studies were included (6 RCTs, 26 nonrandomized, 29,192 participants). Two RCTs had high risk, two ‘some concerns’ and two low risk of bias (Rob2). Among nonrandomized studies with comparators, nine had high risk and five moderat…

Structure and function of the vacuolar Ccc1/VIT1 family of iron transporters and its regulation in fungi

2020

Iron is an essential micronutrient for most living beings since it participates as a redox active cofactor in many biological processes including cellular respiration, lipid biosynthesis, DNA replication and repair, and ribosome biogenesis and recycling. However, when present in excess, iron can participate in Fenton reactions and generate reactive oxygen species that damage cells at the level of proteins, lipids and nucleic acids. Organisms have developed different molecular strategies to protect themselves against the harmful effects of high concentrations of iron. In the case of fungi and plants, detoxification mainly occurs by importing cytosolic iron into the vacuole through the Ccc1/V…

Predicting in situ soil N2O emission using NOE algorithm and soil database

2005

This paper presents a new algorithm, Nitrous Oxide Emission (NOE) for simulating the emission of the greenhouse gas N2O from agricultural soils. N2O fluxes are calculated as the result of production through denitrification and nitrification and reduction through the last step of denitrification. Actual denitrification and nitrification rates are calculated from biological parameters and soil water-filled pore space, temperature and mineral nitrogen contents. New suggestions in NOE consisted in introducing (1) biological site-specific parameters of soil N2O reduction and (2) reduction of the N2O produced through nitrification to N2 through denitrification. This paper includes a database of 6…

Unifying Access to Heterogeneous Document Databases through Contextual Metadata

2011

Document databases available on the Internet carry massive information resources. To a person needing a piece of information on a specific domain, finding the piece, however, is often quite problematic even though there were a representative collection of databases available on the domain. The languages used in the content, the names of document types, their structures, the ways documents are organized and their retrieval techniques often vary in the databases. The databases containing legal information on the Internet offer a typical example. For finding relevant documents and for being able to interpret the content of the documents correctly, the user may need information about the contex…

Multifunctional CD4(+) T cells correlate with active Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection.

2010

Th1 CD4(+) T cells and their derived cytokines are crucial for protection against Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Using multiparametic flow cytometry, we have evaluated the distribution of seven distinct functional states (IFN-gamma/IL-2/TNF-alpha triple expressors, IFN-gamma/IL-2, IFN-gamma/TNF-alpha or TNF-alpha/IL-2 double expressors or IFN-gamma, IL-2 or TNF-alpha single expressors) of CD4(+) T cells in individuals with latent M. tuberculosis infection (LTBI) and active tuberculosis (TB). We found that triple expressors, while detectable in 85-90%TB patients, were only present in 10-15% of LTBI subjects. On the contrary, LTBI subjects had significantly higher (12- to 15-fold) proportions of…

Differential expression patterns of cytokines in complex regional pain syndrome.

2007

Complex regional pain syndromes (CRPS) are characterized by persistent and severe pain after trauma or surgery. Neuro-immune alterations are assumed to play a pathophysiological role. Here we set out to investigate whether patients with CRPS have altered systemic pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokine profiles compared to controls on mRNA and protein level. We studied blood cytokine mRNA and protein levels of the pro-inflammatory cytokines tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF), interleukin-2 (IL-2) and IL-8 and the anti-inflammatory cytokines IL-4, IL-10, and transforming growth factor-beta1 (TGF beta 1) in 40 prospectively recruited patients with CRPS I, two patients with CRPS II, and 34 controls…
